Hi all Genosphiles and Happy New Year !

I have read that we can add Intro IV and Ending IV to the styles.

I guess I have, firstly, to add the MIDI data into a style and to add the markers Intro4 and Ending4.
Then, I have no idea how to trigger them.

Is there a tutorial somewhere ?
Do you experience this feature ? How have you implemented it from a hardware point of view (external electronic components, USB interface,...)
Any comment would be welcome.

Thanks,
Luluc

Does that mean, each time I switch on my Genos, I have also to open the software Style Intro4 and Ending4 to make them working ?

Maybe Yamaha can make them available one of these days in an update which will have them accessible via one of the 6 assignable buttons.

Jørgen,

1 - In the MIDI file, how do you name the marker for the 4th Intro/Ending : Intro 4 or Intro D ?

In the MIDI file, all the markers are named with letters A, B or C.
It make some confusion with the software calling for Intro 4 and Ending 4.

2 - In the MIDI setup, I choose MIDI Output Devices = Digital Workstation.
Still not working. There may be something wrong somewhere.

Hi

Intro D and Ending D
Sorry for the confusion...
I will update my web site.

Jørgen

Edit:
At my keyboard the intro and ending buttons are marked as I - II - III even though these parts inside the style file are labelled "Intro A", "Intro B" and "Intro C".  ;)

Don't use intro's anyway
You can use them for a few times
After that they becomming boring
And you  start playing with doing nothing for 4 or 8 measures
Better take the last 4 measures from an chores or refrein as a intro

Hi

These style parts - besides being intro/ending parts - can be used as "long" fill parts. Kind of a "bridge" in the song... ;)

It don't work. What is wrong in my settings ?
Has the program been tested with Genos ver. 2.01 ?

You might need to be a bit more specific about exactly what dont work.

Did it make your Genos display the recipe for tomato soup on the screen, or did it not select intro 4.

Did other commands sent from the PC through other utilities work as expected.

Did you have a style with the D markers loaded up on the Genos.

Etc
Genos

Luluc

As said above, I have a style with an Intro D loaded in the Genos.
I have the Jorgen utility opened with the MIDI driver specified as my above posts.
When I hit the Enter key or + key of my computer keyboard, the Intro D is not trigerred.

Do you use this feature on a Genos ?

Hi Luluc,

I have just tried the program on both my Genos and Tyros4 using a style that contains both Ending IV and Intro IV.

The program correctly triggers Intro IV and Ending IV on the Tyros4 using either MIDI port 1 or 2 selected as output.

However it does not on Genos.  I have firmware  2.01 installed in Genos.

Watching the MIDI Receive monitor on both keyboards, the program is sending something to the selected MIDI port on all 16 channels, but whilst this actually triggers the style section on Tyros4, it doesn't on Genos.

I made a registration some time ago on my Tyros4 to trigger all 4 Intros and 4 Endings in this style as required.

This works fine on both the Tyros4 and Genos, but requires the user to first memorise a reg. for one of the three panel accessible Intro/Endings and then use a MIDI editor (Hex editor) to modify a byte in the regs. to select #4, which many users would probably not be able to do.

If you only wanted to use the extra style sections on a few styles, I think that it is a better option than using the program since there is no need to have a computer connected to the keyboard to activate the sections.

Regards

Ian

This explains Luluc's problem.

But it is strange that something which work at "older" models does not work any more.

I have done a litte research some time ago about building a little box with two buttons and some Arduino based HW and SW to control the triggering. But if the concept do not work at Genos, I will stop my thinking... at least in this project...  ;)

Checking the manuals for Tyros 5 and Genos show the excact same Sy*** messages in "Section Control" for "INTRO 4" and "ENDING 4" ... But, but, but ... in Tyros 4 the Style parts are labelled "INTRO D" and "ENDING D" in the manual.

However inside the style files all files use "Intro D" and "Ending D" ...

Still a mystery...

Reading this thread gave me an idea... It's possible to edit the style Markers by switching Intro/Ending D with Intro Ending C thus creating a variation of the style.   IE; Style Version A (with Intro/Ending C and Style Version B (with Intro/Ending D - edited to become Intro/Ending C) .  Now if you memorize these 2 styles in a registration bank, you will have access to all 4 Intros and Endings.  Maybe this is what Ian was saying(?)  You can edit the Style Markers with MixMaster and StyleMagic and maybe one of Jorgens programs too(?)

Does that make sense?

Still do not how to modify me "Intro IV" - "Ending IV" program.
The program does not else than sending Sy*** messages for the appropriate style parts as defined in the manuals

HI Jorgen,

Here are some news.

On my Genos, I CAN trigger the Intro 4 (or Intro IV or Intro D) by using a Sy*** sender program called Send SX.

I Just enter the right Sy*** for the Intro 4
I select Digital Workstation as MIDI Out
Then I hit the F4 key
And it works.

In the MIDI file, the 4th intro is named Intro D to be coherent with the other intros A,B & D.

BUT at the computer, the SendSX window must be active, if you reduce it in the bar of the tasks, it no longer works. So that is a little bit annoying. Is it the same case with with your software ?

Thinking of an H/W version : it should work and should be more convenient to hit a pushbutton on a small box located on the Genos. But I have not the required harware to test it.

Hi

Modifying / re-arranging a single style file http://www.jososoft.dk/yamaha/software/sremix/index.htm

Jørgen

Well that looks easy enough... just assign Intro D (Source) to Intro C (Destination) and SAVE.

Hi Luluc

Great news.

I do not think it makes sense for other of my programs to run in Task Bar as these rely on user interaction through the UI.
Will try to find a solution for this software program...

Hi Jørgen,

I too can confirm that if you send just the Sy*** message F0 43 7E 00 23 7F F7 to Genos using the programs SendSx or MIDI-OX, Ending 4 is selected.  Similarly the message F0 43 7E 00 03 7F F7 selects Intro 4.

I did notice that on both Genos and Tyros4, the MIDI Receive monitor does not indicate activity on any channel when the messages are sent from the above programs.  However when your program is used, the MIDI Receive monitor flashes briefly, first on channel 6, then on all other channels!

I don't have a way of revealing exactly what MIDI messages your program is sending, but could the above suggest that your program is sending channel or reset messages as well as the intended sy*** for the style part?

Having said that, it remains a fact that whatever your program is sending, it correctly selects Intro/Ending 4 on the T4 but does not on Genos.

Note that I have no intention of using any program to use the extra parts, my interest is purely out of curiosity!

Ian

Furthermore, Intro D could be used for holds, a feature really missing on Yamaha arrangers.

Hi Ian

My program sends 4 events: The Sy*** message; a NoteOn vol=0; a NoteOff vol=0; and a EndOfTrack.
It is two years ago I wrote the program; and I can not remember the function of the last three events...  ;) but I guess these are required in some way in my implementation.

Jørgen,

Does this program modify the style remotely (via sy***) without having to save the style file on the computer if you are modifying just one style. (User would have to save the style on the keyboard with a new name))  I see it does batch processing as well and saves modified styles in a directory specified by user.  Is this correct?

Hi Joe
You will have to save all your work at your computer. The program renames the style parts.
No connection to the keyboard. It is a stand alone program from the old days when styles were moved to the keyboard at floppy discs... ;)
Batch processing: Yes using a pattern
Changed files saved in a user defined directory = No source file are overwritten.

That would be the best solution, rather than a software solution or a hardware solution : no extra things to add.

I just hope that Yamaha people reads this forum. It looks rather simple to implement, the two Sy*** already exist.
So, wait and see !
