Is there a program I can use to fix these corrupt file on my own?  I have a midi program file that I've owned for a while.. and there appears to be lots of corrupted files. Hate to trouble folks and keep asking for help here.

You could try Jorgen's Style & Midi-fixer program. He created many handy programs. You'll find them on his website.

Most of the time it's one or more of the first four bytes of file header that is corrupted, but not always.  Using a simple Hex Editor will let you repair the file, if that happens to be the case.

The first four bytes of the file header should read as follows: MThd  If one or more of those bytes are corrupted, you can use a simple Hex Editor to repair the file.  I use the following free Hex Editor:

Hi

First try to examine the file header in a hex editor, as Roger suggests. The four first bytes MUST be MThd    -- and capitalisation matters!

If the problem is somewhere else, try my Style Fixer software as Dick suggests. Get it from Guets are not allowed to view links. In order to access the links, please Register or Login

Hi Tyros,

May I ask you which software you use to make the styles or did you use the keyboard?

Maybe this knowledge makes it easier to find the error's.

I remember someone posted a MIDI file in the forums a few years back that wouldn't open, and when I looked at it the first four characters said "Lock" or something like that, which I fixed and posted for the OP. I think maybe some people or sites may do that sort of thing as a way to "protect" their MIDI files from being freely copied and shared.
