My SX900 has arrived.

Be patient Henni, I guarantee that very positive messages will appear about the SX900 ......... and that very negative messages will also appear. ;) You will be able to read that in every forum and find it with every new model. The one wants to convince the other of 'good - better - best', sometimes based solely on a feeling. Everyone has 'sometimes' a hidden agenda with his reaction, sometimes what you 'don't' write says more than you do write. Fortunately, nobody has to talk to anyone about whether or not they should be happy about something .... everyone determines that for themselves. OK, end of my "Sunday" sermon  ;D ... we'll be happy to talk about the SX900 ...
My best regards,
Ton

Hi Ton / Henni :

I do not expect any negative reactions.
The SX900 is a successful product.

As far as I know only 2 members received their new arranger yesterday.
I think they need some time to install their babies first ... we all know this job takes some time.

First impressions will follow soon. Do not worry.😉
Details later, I guess.

Well it does take time to go through every thing as you can imagine.
I am very pleased with the keyboard. What I am impressed with is that you can load in Genos packs that sound great when played through the SX900. Also it will play Genos registrations and Tyros5 which will save a lot of time if you are wanting to Gig with it. It is very similar to Genos to operate and the touch screen works fine. The keybed has been improved and no longer rattles when playing softly.
Have not had a chance to use the chord looper yet. Have found the demo songs on chord tracker on my I Pad and will load them in and see how they sound.
All in all a very nice keyboard.

Sorry Henni but if you already have owned a bunch of keyboards and also own a Genos as Eileen has,
I wouldn't expect to be as excited as someone moving let's say from an s910 to SX900.
Anyway as Babette already said you have to edit stuff to your liking first to make the instrument to sound as you want. :)

That's a ditto.  Besides when you get to be in your eighties... there isn't much to get excited about mundane things like a new keyboard... we become too wise to get excited about such trivial things. We already know that each keyboard model just gets better and better.

I waited 14 years before I upgraded, so I was REALLY exited! Then there was not just a few small changes, but a major upgrade!
I unwillingly changed from my S970 to S975, and that did not get me exited. It was just like getting the same keyboard back. Yes, there was some improvements, but only minor.

Genos, Tyros 5, PSR S975, PSR 2100
and PSR-47.

The S975 was a small upgrade.
I would call it an update instead of an upgrade.

I think the SX900 is a real upgrade and looks to be more than just a baby Genos.

Should not be surprised the Genos2 would be launched next year.

Babette

EileenL

I don't think Genos 2 will be out for a couple of years yet. Probably more updates to come first.

Hi Eileen, great news receiving the keyboard :) Where did you get the keyboard from and how come so early? My UK supplier still hasn't contacted me yet, not even an update which is surprising, and a shame.

beykock

Yamaha products UK.

Do you expect price changes in the UK after the Brexit ?
Maybe UK enduser prices might become lower
( USA prices ? ) then than European prices, who knows ?☝

Hi Eileen,

Congratulations for your purchase. I wish you many years of gigging and musical fun with your new purchase. I hope that in the forthcoming weeks you will manage to orchestrate a song with the SX900 for our musical enjoyment.

Regards,

Vinciane
Past keyboards: PSR E313, PSR E413, PSR E433, PSR S550, DGX 640, upright piano.
Now: DGX 650, Casio CT-X800.

Hi Lofty,
You will be OK for Skeggy because all your 970 set ups will load into SX900 and work well. As for the different operating system I am sure Bill will help you out.

Hello Eileen! Please let me know how PSR SX900 voices sound when compared to Tyros5 voices for live performance . I wan't to substitute SX900 in place of my Tyros5 for live performance.

Sunny

EileenL

I can only compare with my Genos and the SX voices are very good. I shall certainly be playing out live with mine. Also you can load your Tyros registrations in and they will sound just as good.

Eileen,

Thank u for your review of the SX 900.  I have a PSR 950 and curious if the registrations I have on the 950 will play on the 900.   Clearly there will be some difference with voicing but will the styles basically play on the 900

Congratulations and anxious to hear more about the new system

Thank you and have a great day

Bob

Congratulate for buying
Hi, has it DJ styles, like in psr s975 ? How many?

beykock

Hi Guys :

I really wonder if there is a commercial future for the Genos yet ?

Will people still buy a new Genos whilst the SX900 is available now and ... 50% lower in price ?

Even Tyros4 and Tyros5 owners seem to be very interested in buying an SX900.

You may say I am crazy and confused but I think only Yamaha can answer that question.
I am looking forward to hearing their reaction soon.

Hi Eileen,
just a quick question, which I may have missed.
You say you can load in Genos registrations, but these can be 10 buttons and the sx900 has only 8.. what happens??

Don't get mixed up with all the hype regarding the new 900

Take a listen to a clarinet played on a Tyros 5 or Genos
Then listen to a clarinet played on a SX900
100 miles apart

Sx900 has some new features, touch screen etc. and some new features for EDM players but the sound department hasn't changed much, same voices as the S950, few new ones.

Do I need a "Rotary switch" on the dash when I can work the rotary speed from a pedal
And that's been around for the past 10+ years

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice keyboard and I may even buy one.

I played a 900 last week, if your a gigger like me, then the weight and the size may tempt you, but  it's not a Tyros 5 or a Genos  -  but good enough for a gig or two.

Pino

EileenL

Hi all a lot of question but I will try my best to answer.
Bob cant be a hundred percent sure about registrations. If you post one here I will try it for you. As for styles, if you are using on board styles then the keyboard will pick the nearest style to it. If you mean third part styles then yes they will load and work but if attached to registration banks will most probably need to be relinked.
  Hello John.
When loading in a bank from Genos the first eight buttons will load so you will not have the last two.
Not a problem as most people are used to only using eight on previous keyboards.
Hi Babette I really do not understand your passion for these type of questions. Of course there will still be a good market for Genos. As I have said before the SX900 is a very nice keyboard but it is not a Genos or a Baby Genos. It uses the same operating system and the touch screen layout is the same but it is still a Yamaha model in its own right. Maybe if you tried these keyboards you would understand more.
Eileen

Pino

If you have your present keyboard "stage ready" the it will take you at least a few weeks to get this 900 stage ready.

I thought that when I upgraded from the 950 to the 975 that is was going to be easy.

Well, it wasn't. I had to go through every registration and OTS and edit everything again.

If your a home player then maybe not so important.

Like Eileen has said I do not understand why you continue to Hijack someones thread for your own topic.

Why don't you simply start a NEW Thread for your questions.

Are you sure you want to find out Babette?  ;)

beykock

Hi Eileen :

Most people might be more and more convinced, thanks
in part to your own first impressions and your first " tests " - for which I am very grateful - the SX900 might be called a
" Baby Genos " and is a great, pro arranger keyboard.

On the internet this statement has been confirmed by the German press today.

I know you disagree but the sales of the Genos might slow down due to the presence of the SX900.

The near future will tell us much more, I guess.

It's actually only the customers that can answer the question. I don't think Yamaha is worried.

... the SX900 might be called a  " Baby Genos " and is a great, pro arranger keyboard...

Yamaha has upgraded the quality of both the TOTL and mid-range arrangers.  Genos is the TOTL and the sx900 is the flagship for the mid-range. The sx900 is NOT a "baby Genos"... it is the new standard for the mid-range arrangers. The TOTL will always have more features and capabilities.

Yamaha is just following the conventions since Tyros 1. Genos and PSR sx series are the next generation arrangers.

Babette,
Why oh why are you so interested in sales of keyboards. Surely this forum is for helping people get the best from there keyboards or asking questions on how to do things. I am sure people do not want to keep hearing if this or that keyboard will survive. We should all be asking more constructive questions on what we have now.
I have Just posted a song quickly played on SX900 straight to MP3 in performers section. How about doing the same with your keyboard instead of keep going on about what will or will not be in the future.
Eileen

vbdx66

Hi Eileen,

Thanks for posting the song, I will go and listen to it.

Since there are so few songs played on the SX900 so far, I suggest you post another topic in the SX forum with a link to your song. Many people might be hanging here who are not used to going to the Performers section. This would enable more people to listen to your song. Also, it will be more visible than in the present topic.
