Play Midi Files without 'playing' them

Good day, everyone.

I want to know if it is possible to play a midi file on the Genos, but not have it play the instrument, if you understand what I mean.  I only want it to display on the external screen.

Background:  I do the Music Ministry for our church, which is a small rural location.  We can only afford one hymnal for the pews, and that is the wonderful, but now out-dated CBW II.  (Canadian Book Of Worship).  Currently, I use a projector with the text screen to display the appropriate lyrics, but I would also like to display a melody line for the people to follow when it's not in the book.

Ideally, the midi would sound no notes, and would follow my playing.  Is this even possible?

You have to make a midi setup
By mute midi channels and reroute midi channels
Midi A 16 channels are for song replay
Midi B 16 channels are the arranger and left,right 1,2 3

Adam,
I'm not sure if I understood exactly, but it seems you want to play along with a midi song without it being heard (not clear on how it could follow your playing!) Have you tried simply setting the Song master volume to zero? When I tried it as a test the song plays and I can play independently, even using a different style, (are you using styles?) and the tempo ends up being common to both. It probably needs some refinement in practice to get it working as routine.

That's more or less the right idea.  What I want to accomplish is the that music is displayed on the external projector for the congregation.  When I'm using a style,  I can see everything working just by turning the volume down, because, as you say, the tempo is synced.  But there are several hymns that I play that don't work well will styles, and have to be played free.  And sometimes I have to adjust the tempo to the congregation.  I don't want a metronome running during the Mass, so I need to have the midi files stay in tempo to what I'M playing, so that the display matches, and the congregation can see the words/music.

Experimentation earlier today, suggests that it is extremely difficult to get the Genos to record a midi file in anything but 4/4 time.  The test piece I was using is in 3/2.  I also could not find any easy way to add lyrics to the file.  I did figure out how to record only the melody line, so that's a start.

you can turn the arranger of to aloud you free playing
And play full keyboard
or split the keyboard in lower and upper to play left bass and right chords and/or melodie
adjust the tempo in the midi file
i use cakewalk sonar to add the lyrics
with copy paste you can add the whole text in once
you have only to sync with the melodie notes
every word part is a melodie note
Place a -  sign between the word parts

Thank you, Janus.  I'll have to look into cakewalk sonar ... I just hope it's not too expensive.

Adjusting the tempo in the midi file isn't going to work.  I need to be able to adjust, real time, to how the congregation is singing.

Adam,
Try adjusting the tempo in real time as you play. If your settings are similar to mine you should find the song follows your changes.

Cakewalk Sonar is now free from Bandlab

Follow the choir in realtime is not possible with the arranger running
Take a style
don't start the arranger
Now you can follow the choir with left and right hand playing

It is simple to let the choir follow you
you are the conducter the bass and drums are your conductor stick
