Hello friends! I wonder if program version 1.02 on my T5 is the newest version?

Hi Toril,

The latest version of the Tyros5 firmware is V 1.13 which was released in December 2016!

Are you sure that the version on your T5 is not 1.12 rather than 1.02?

You can download the latest version from your local Yamaha Support website.   Here is a link to it on the UK site which should work for you if you can't find your local one...

Thanks Ian! No, it says 1.02! The former user was an elderly man who didn't care about ecpansion packs (no module) or updates. Will the instrument be much improved with updates? Anything could go wrong while trying to update! But if I really benefit from it I will have to try...

I downloaded the newest version, and understand that I have to format a USB stick on the keyboard, unzip the program and load it into the keyboard. I will have to muster some courage to do this, I have some bad experience with updates going wrong and rendering devices useless, and I fear for my beloved Tyros! But the version number I have is not even mentioned in the version history, so it obviously needs an update!

Toril S. The Update download does include instruction. Just follow them and you will find the update is straight forward.

Thanks Graham :) I know that, but, since my program version is not even mentioned in the list on the Yamaha website, I have sent a request to them. It seems to be no version called "1.02," but that is what it says on my screen. Mysterious!

Hi Toril,

Looking at a couple of YouTube videos, it looks as if the 'System Booter' program on the T5 is V 1.02.

Are you sure that you are not seeing this?  If you are starting up the T5 with the Style Start/Stop button held down, the System Booter screen will open briefly showing V 1.02 at the top.  This is not the firmware version!

To be sure you should check the firmware version with the keyboard started up normally.

To check the version press FUNCTION > UTILITY > tab to OWNER.

Press VERSION  (lower 7 or 8 buttons) and the current firmware version will be displayed as 'Program Version 1.xx'

Hi Toril,

In that case you should update.

Just make sure that you correctly extract (unzip) the download and copy the extracted TYROS5SETUP.PRG file to the root of your USB drive.

If there is enough space on the USB that you currently use with the keyboard, you can use this without deleting any existing files or formatting it, but the program must be at the root level.

There is an instruction PDF at the bottom of the same web page as the update which you can download if you need it.

Toril, I believe that that Tyros updates contained fixes for small bugs, rather than really changing the way anything worked or adding anything.

If you're not experiencing any glitches, you're not really missing anything by not updating. So if you *really* don't feel confident, you don't have to.

I would always advise everyone to update there keyboard to the latest version update. That way you should not experience any problem in the future.
