You can add a copyright message to them, but that doesn't actually make the files copy protected.

Pino

Why would you want to do that ?

Janus

There is one way
Don't make copy's yourself
keep the orig files in a safe don't share them
And you have to make midi files and styles yourself from scratch
to make it your own
They must be orig songs no cover songs

the only way to do this is to use your own sounds for those styles. So these are the steps:

- create custom sounds on the psr / tyros 5 / genos
- create your own styles using those sounds
- create a new yem package
- add the sounds and styles in that package
- then create copy protected packages in yem based on the instrument nfo file from the buyer (CPF files)

this way only the buyer can use it on it's own specific psr/tyros/genos model.

Thank you for your feedback, Qui. Very useful.👍

It would be wonderful to see a video ( in Dutch and English e.g.) that explains, step by step, how to create such a personal product like your own style/midi and turn it into a Yem file.

I fully understand, to create and to make such a video, might be a bridge too far and too much work involved.

I am afraid this dream will never come true though.😰

Best wishes, Babette

Except the buyer could still export the style file, and change it so it uses non-custom voices. That is what happens when a new keyboard model is released with new voices and new styles, and people save the new styles to files, revoice them, and post them for people to use on their older model keyboards.

true, that is indeed possible, revoicing can be done on the instrument itself and save that style again. But that applies to all styles, it's really simple to capture the midi information in a DAW and do everything you want to do with it.

That's why i think the complete package should add extra value by combining unique sounds and styles to create that unique sound that can't be achieved with revoicing with factory sounds.

Personally i hate copy protection, i didn't do it for all my own sound sets for other synth and keyboard brands and give most of my own work away for free, a few sound sets are premium and have  extremely low prices and i hope that people will appreciate the work and do think that it's worth the price and buy it and don't share it. In the korg community this model works really well to be honest and this way i can avoid all the copyright protection hassle for customers.

But in the yamaha world it's quite different, one search on google and you can find thousends of styles and sounds, so i still haven't decided yet if it's worth the time spending hundreds of hours per expansion to create sound sets for that platform, so i can understand the question from this topic starter.

I posted dance styles here on the forum for free and saw them for sale included in a style pack by an eBay seller from the UK.  I call those kind of people internet Pirates.

I agree, but the only solution is don't post. Copy protection is too annoying for customers, and too easy to break fir pirates.
