Hi Guys,

A few of the VH2 Harmony selections are working without touching the chord keys but most of them are only working when chords are " touched " by the left hand fingers,
right ?

Is there a " trick " to let them ALL work without playing any chords ( manually ) ?

I would like to add vocals and VH2 vocal selections AFTER all midi tracks have been edited and recorded ( in audio ).

Wishful thinking ?😨

Looking forward to reading your comments and/or step by step instructions.

Thank you so much, Babette

You have to tell the machine where to find the chord that it should use to generate the harmony.

This is done on the 'setup' panel that appears when you press the appropriate button below the VH type select screen.

(Personally I think this panel is a little confusing, the 3 choices under 'vocoder control' only apply when you're using a VH in 'vocoder' mode, and the choice under 'chord' only applies for a VH in 'chordal' mode. The Genos handles this better by only showing the options relevant to the current VH mode.)

When you select a VH type from the preset list, it has a default mode. I'm assuming the VH type you're using is in 'chordal' mode, for traditional style harmonies, so you want to pick an option from the 'chord' options on the right hand side.

If you created the midi file from a quick record, it will contain Yamaha's own XF data for the chords, so pick XF

Otherwise pick the midi channel in your file that's most likely to contain the notes of a chord. For example a pad channel.

Check the T5 reference manual page 104 - 105. It does note that it still might not work if the selected channel "has insufficient note data for chord detection"

Note : If you're trying to get the machine to generate harmonies along with a pre-precorded audio file or track, then you are out of luck :). It needs the MIDI data.

Hi Babette

Reading your request I still don't understand what it is you are trying to create at the end of your recording.

You have to play a CHORD in order for the VH2 to know how to create the harmony.

I just posted the song, "Kokomo" earlier this week. At the kick off of the song you will hear the VH2 harmonizing to my vocals with only the drums playing. In order for the VH2 to harmonize to my vocal I still had to play the correct chords.

I order to do what you are wanting, you will simply go into a MAIN on the style and reduce all 8 of the parts in the main to ZERO volume. Then save the style as a USER or on your USB stick.

If you need all four of the style's MAINs for your song recording then create a REGISTRATION and link to a separate second style with the above setup.

Or, simply set the Style volume to zero in the Balance screen. No user style is required.
