Advice please

I did attempt some recording this afternoon and it just did not sound right.  Then I looked at the EQ setting for the mic and that is when I realised that I have no idea in this area. In the past I just plugged in the mic and of I went....
Can anyone give some idea of an average mic EQ setting and what these setting do for the sound?
I just hope I can follow it

Ton, I assume you just plugged the mic into the back of the keyboard and did not go through a mixer. If this is the case, there are  lots of options and no real formula to post that would help. Much of this is based upon the frequency response of the mic,  your vocal quality and range, and what effects you wish to add, reverb, echo, delay, etc..., all of which will dramatically change what comes out of the sound system.

If you have a high pitched voice, decrease the high EQ, add a bit of mid range, and add more low EQ, which should improve the smoothness of your vocals. If you have a bullfrog voice, which I have, add some mid range EQ and just a touch of high EQ. If your voice is mid range, then add a bit of high and low EQ and leave the mid range set to the default setting.

For effects, it only takes a touch of reverb to really make a difference, though this is something you will have to judge.

Be sure to save your settings to a registration. The keyboard will default to factory settings when it is turned off and you will have to go through all the setup again in order to restore them. When you save them to a registration, then you merely select that registration after firing up the keyboard and you're ready to go. However, I also suggest using the Parameter Lock feature so hold them in place while performing.  Just a few more button pushes, but can save you a lot of grief. Then before shutting down the keyboard, turn off the mic settings in the Parameter Lock and you will be ready to go the next time you turn on the keyboard.

Good point. Keep in mind there is a mic input indicator on your keyboard - be sure to keep it in the green and slightly into the yellow. If the indicator is red, you are overdriving the system, which results in clipping.
