PSR-S975 Problem with Trumpet voice

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a PSR s975, and am in the process of transitioning my repertoire from my older PSR s900 to the new keyboard. Unfortunately, the keyboards are not compatible enough to allow me to use a USB stick to transfer the data, so it has to be done manually. Now the voices and styles are different on the new keyboard, so it is a long process going through each song and transposing. Here is my problem. On the 900 model, I had a voice in the Trumpet section called "Big Band Trumpet" This voice has a beautiful trill to it when you press a key down hard. I can not duplicate this on the new 975. I would like to have this feature for the trumpet as it suits a couple of tunes I perform.

Question: Is this a setting issue that can be resolved within the new keyboard, or is it (Trill) not available in the PSR s975?

Thank You
Bob Rozon

I think you just need to look through all the brass voices, there is one that does this - not sure of the name though. Only look at the ones marked SArt! because the trill is a super articulation feature.

Bob,

The voice is still on the PSR-S975 and listed as BigBandTrumpet.
You may have to adjust the Touch or DSP settings to get it to play the way you like.

I wasn't going to do anything today - so far, I'm on schedule, :)

Hi Bob,

As Bill G has pointed out, the 'BigBandTrumpet' voice is listed in the PSR-S975 Data List, but it is in the 'Brass' voice category rather than 'Trumpet' as it was on the S900.

The voice has the same voice ID (listed as 008-037-065 on the keyboard) and is shown as a 'S.Art' voice on both keyboards, so it should be the same.

This Voice Requires.  109 Velocity and Above to give the Trill effect.

Go to Voice Set and increase the Voice Offset (Touch Sense )

If that doesn't work.

I think It may need a Soft Reset.  ( Keyboard)

Thank you all for the great advice. The keyboard is just fine now, and I can carry on with my transition of songs. Sometimes I just can't see the forest for the trees and need these types of positive and confident responses to force me to open my eyes.

Greatly appreciated.

Glad it is solved, Bob :) Happy Trumpet playing :)

Do we s970 players have access to a similar voice, including via the YEM, or is the instrument inherently unable to create the sound?

I don't quite understand what are you trying to say.

That voice Exists on the the PSR S970 and 770.

To be able to create a similar Voice.
We have to set the Velocity range.
Also the Use of
Elements 1 and 2 can be used.

I apologise, I hadn't realised that the voice already existed. The whole area of adjusting voice parameters is, at present, for me a step into the unknown.

Thank you. I shall continue my path along the learning curve,

No worries my friend!!
It's not to complicated...
Since the voice can be tested live... You can get Real time Effect.

To expand a little on Norman's note -

This voice is one of the Super Articulation voices that sounds different depending on how hard you hit the keys.

Some people have a very soft touch and find it hard to trigger the effect. The solution to that is to go into voice set, touch sense, and adjust the velocity sensing parameters specifically for that voice. If you increase the offset, it effectively adds a fixed amount of velocity. So the effect can be triggered with even a soft touch. The downside of this, though, is that you might end up triggering the effect when you didn't mean to ....

Thank you both. I've discovered the effect and how to trigger it. Two questions: Is the effect only applicable to Super Articulation voices? Does the effect operate in a binary way, i.e. normal voice and voice+effect with nothing in between?
