Terrible news, Buying Genos Tomorrow

With profound sadness I shall be buying a Genos at midday local time here.

All C#s and Gs on my Tyros 3 play once at maximum volume then go dead.
Since last Sunday.

From that moment onwards, any style chord that involves a C# or G will play weird,
especially if the root note is one of the abovementioned notes.

And those 2 notes stay on forever, no matter which chords one changes to.
Meaning that whatever chords one plays, there will be a C# and G continuing to play.
All right hand and left hand C#s and Gs will not play anymore either.

After following all the right procedures for cleaning the keypads and circuit board
to no avail, I took it to a technician who gave me the bad news that the problem
is in the motherboard and cannot be fixed.

I searched fo days to find a Tyros 4 or 5 from sources I could trust but none are available
as I write.
Unfortunately for me I have to gig this entire  weekend beginning Friday.

I thought of the Korg PA4X because I like the rich styles that it has, but out of
familiarity with Yamaha, I also had to consider the Genos.

I have tried the Genos so many times and the more I play it, the more I dislike it.
It always sounds too dull to me.
To each their own opinions I guess.

Anyway, it is the only keyboard that is immediately available, as others may take days
to arrive.

So Genos it shall be.

Best Regards.
Abby.

Tyros5Mad

You will not be sorry I guarantee that. I had a Tyros 3 and it was great. Then I had a Tyros 5 and it was better. The Genos is the best.

Regards, Richard

By the way, I forgot to mention that I will be getting it for 3200 Euros.

Best Regards.
Abby.

The Tyros 3 came out in September 2008, ten years was a good ride.  ;)

I purchased a used PSR2000, that model came out in 2001, it lasted until November of 2013. The PSR-S950 was just coming out and I was one happy camper, I was so glad the PSR2000 broke down, perfect timing.  8)

I really think you are gonna just love the new Genos. ;D

Bachus

Even due it not being perfect, i enjoy my Genos tremendously..

And with just a little editing, you are able to get its styles to sound better and richer then on the pa4x..
At that price, you will not regret it..

I am sure we will see some incredible video's of your GEnos performances soon.
Looking forward to that.

Too bad.  :-[
As they say, never so bad that it's not good for anything.  ;D
But the good news for you will be that the 'Plastc Fantastic made in China' is not much more weight to carry around.
Just wait and see, it is dangerous addictive, and with a little patience you're probably going to like it more and more..
I think you'll find it to be a good tool for your work. Congratulations, and good luck with your new companion.  :)

Hey, if you are anywhere near the UK, I will swop your brand new Genos for my T5. And I won't even charge you anything :)

Hi Abby,

I too think you'll love it.

Good luck and I hope to hear some of your music played on it very soon.

I may hope ( other ) pro giggers will share their Genos experiences here and convince Abby he made the right decision.

Abby, the Genos sounds good right out of the box, but for an enhanced sound, try these EQ settings:

Are you kidding? Why should we give him any help with that attitude?

Pardon my ignorance Sir, but what kind of attitude does the words you just wrote show?   :o
If you wrote it as a funny comment, you could at least add a  ;) , if it's not, you just told us a lot about yourself.  :-[

Hello Fred.

Please try to chill out a bit.
Stress doesn't bode well for one's  blood pressure.
I've had a few friends keel over because of stress.
Just trying to help.

My original post was a little tongue in cheek by the way.

You will love it Abby. But it will take a little time to adjust. I know you love your T3, and in the same way you will come to love the Genos. Keep us posted!😀❤️

Hi Abby,
Too bad you are so far away.
I would love to come and see you and show you how to make the Genos sizzle.
I totally get what you are saying.
The T3 had a sizzle that my T4 did not have.
I could never get it right.
However, after playing with the Genos for a while and playing with EQ, Compression etc., I got the Genos to sizzle.
Not like the T3, but in it's own way.
I have no doubt in my mind that you will be able to do that in your own way too ;)
Hang in there my friend.
Give it some time to really get to know your new Genos and you will master this beast like you did the T3.
Because that's the professional that you are ...
All the best.

I'm afflicted with low blood pressure so my doctor doesn't mind a little bit of stress. It's hard to find these days now that I've resigned myself to a mediocre golf game in my declining years.

Enjoy your Genos, Abby.

Keyboardist

Tuff news Abbey guess things happen for a reasons we do not know sometimes.
Like anything else it takes a while to get re comfortable with a new board and its features and sounds and adjustments and part with what we truly liked.
I wasn't impressed with my board when I got it, but after a while tweaking and adjusting I got it to sound pretty good.Time will tell
Geno's is certainly no slouch but to each their own.I'm sure the musician in you will figure that out.

Hi Abby,

Maybe it might be a good idea to delete your thread ... at least ... an other title would help a lot, I guess.

What will be your reaction here if you will find out ( in a couple of days or weeks ) your new Genos is the best arranger keyboard you have ever owned and/or played ?

I understand and feel very sorry you are emotional, sad, disappointed you have lost your T3 and needed to make a
" forced " and fast decision but it does not justify your title of
this thread, IMHO.

You are a very good musician and a great performer.

I wish you a lot of success with your new " beast ".

I am almost sure you will never regret you have bought a Genos.
Forget your emotions and give the Genos the chance it really deserves !

Nothing or nobody is perfect.

Keep in mind your new Genos might become almost perfect for your work and your audiance and fans.

Take care, Babette

Abby,

Now that you made your decision, you might not want to hear/read my comment.

When I had my S900 and S910, I gigged so much that periodically I would get an effect similar to what you described on your Tyros. It was a ruptured key contact.  My technician kept a supply of them on hand so he could quickly put in new, affordable contact strips to get me to my next gig.

I doubt that your Tyros is finished yet, and probably can give somebody many more "miles" still.

The good news is that this got you to moving toward an instrument that will give you much enhancement. Please enjoy it (and remember to sleep!).

Thanks for the advice Royce. I will place an order for  new strips on Monday.

Best Regards.

DonM

Yamaha arrangers are infamous for needing new strips.  I'm surprised you haven't needed them before, as much as you play.

Toril S

Hope you get it to work. Then you will have two great keyboards!

The first two gigs went fairly ok though, even though I'll have to redo my registrations
in the coming days and weeks.
I'm not overly impressed with the drums.
But time will tell.

I sorely miss my T3, years of tuning the thing have gone to waste.
I'm off to play another gig right now.

Best Regards.
Abby.

My deepest sympathy on being forced to buy a Genos :) :) :) .  Especially at the price you paid, you poor guy!
