Howdy..... What is the best way to finds my registrations quickly.  Right now.... I have folders labeled alphabetically..... 8 registrations per folder..... so many times I have sereral folders label B1. B2, B3 for all my " B"... songs.  I sure wish the music finder would save registrations.... that would be so handy.  Some of my registrations are my style files.... and some are midi files.  When playing a gig..... it takes way too long to find a song. I have set lists..... where I use a computer program to set up my songs for the night.... but many times..... someone requests a song that is not in the set list... and I have to go to my folders and find it. Takes way too long. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.... Chuck Lyons...Akron, Ohio

It would help to know how many registrations you have.

In my case, I have about 500. In every case, the file name is the name of the song. I, too, have 26 folders (A-Z). But I don't have any sub folders.

It takes me mere seconds to find a requested song, especially using the Tyros's List view, which is something I miss with the Genos.

Suggestions:
1. Get rid of the sub-sub folders.
2. Ensure your file names make it easy to find the song.
3. Keep you gig lists completely separate from your mail folder of song registrations.

Hope this helps,
Fred

I have about 300 registrations.     The name of the song is the name of the registration, so the keyboard automatically sorts them in alphabetical order.  I do not have folders/subfolders.

Well,  i have one single root/folder where i keep all the registrations in my USB drive.  I believe the keyboard limit is 500 . . . . . . .

It takes me seconds to find a registration looking in the keyboard directly.  It takes me less looking at my iPad and finding it.  Using SongBook+ i can call up any registration and the corresponding PDF using my iPad/SongBook+.

If you are interested, Fred has an excellent video on using SongBook+.

Hope it helps.

Thanks Al and Fred........ Ok..... I am going to try to get this together.  I really appreciate your help.  Now..... all my registrations are by the name of the song. I have about 250.  So..... if I make one folder...... paste all of my registrations into this folder..... it will put them in alphabetical order? Then I can pull up list view..... and then find the song I want? Is that correct?  Fred.....do you have a step by step method to do all of this.  I know you have some videos. If I get this up and running.... then I will work on Songbook+.  Right now I use IGig software for my IPad...... but I would sure like to do everything in one step.....instead of having to find my song in IGig.... and then find the registration on my Tyros 5.  I appreciate any help you can give.
Thanks... Chuck Lyons..... Akron, Ohio

Chuck,

If you have only 250 registrations, I would put them all in one folder. If you think you'll ever be in the market for a Genos, then name the folder REGIST. Then it will transfer perfectly.

I would move your registrations using a computer. Just connect in USB Storage Mode (Power On + Music Finder).

Once you move them in, the Tyros will put them in alphabetical order. Turn on List View, and use the data wheel to navigate the list.

Cheers,

The USB Storage Mode is when you connect your keyboard directly to your computer (with the same USB cable you use to connect a printer). When you use this mode, the keyboard's hard drive looks like an external drive to the computer, and you can use File Explorer on it, just like any other drive.

If your files are on a USB stick, then ignore the above. Just move the files using your computer, then plug the USB stick in and power on normally.

Fred.......thank you very much.  I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know how it went.  Once I conquer this..... I want to check into your video of using songbook+ to match up my IPad to my registrations. It would be great to pull up a song on my IPad and it would automatically load my registration.  I have a little duo ..... girl singer who plays guitar and has a killer voice.... and I play the Tyros and sing..... mostly backup.  We play 2-4 gigs a month and have a great following.  I just hope to speed up everything and be able to move to songs faster.  If I stick to my set list...... with the program I use.. I can move from one song to the next.  But I want to be able to pull up songs on the fly depending on how the crowd is responding.

Thanks again...... Chuck

Good Morning Fred..... please pardon my ignorance.  I went on my computer..... to my A folder which are Rgt files...... but I can not open it to get to my individual song(registrations) in that Folder.  If I click Open...... it asks me what Program I want to use to open up the RGT.  Totally confused......
I would appreciate it if you can help again.....

Thanks.... Chuck Lyons

Fred.... by the way..... I always have been using the Tyros Registration File Composer to set up my set lists.  I can open up the RGT file in it..... and see my registration for each song.....but it doesn't allow me to individually copy each one and put it in a master folder.

Chuck,

From your posts, I have more questions than answers. And I have no idea what Tyros Registration File Composer is, so I can't help you there.

In previous posts, you said the file name of your registration is the name of the file. If so, why do you need to "open up the RGT file"? Why not just copy the file?

So we need to back up before we can go forward.

What's a song to you -- a full registration bank, or a single registration button?

Howdy.... so sorry for the confusion. I have mine set up as a single button per song. I have 8 songs saved in a folder.... and that folder is RGT. So each RGT folder has 8 songs that can be loaded into the 8 registration buttons on the Tyros.  Now..... I can't open these RGT folders and copy each song.  I can go to the tyros and open up everything.  Just can't do it on the computer.  I must have been doing it wrong the last few years.  Someone on the forum told me to use a program call Tyros Registration file Composer.  It would open up the RGT folder..... show me 8 songs to pick from.... and then I could drag it into a list..... which would give me a set list that I load into the Tyros.... and then go to Set1A...... and it would load my 8 songs in order..... then I could go to Set1B which would load the next 8 songs in the order for the set list for that night.  Then I would load Set 2A.... and 2B..... and that would give me all the songs I needed for set 2.  This works great..... if you stick to the set list.  Maybe I need to start over and save all my songs differently.  I am not sure if this even makes sense.  If not........ don't worry about it.  I don't want you to spend a lot of time on this.  I will keep searching and working at it and figure out what I need to do.  I appreciate your time.

Thanks.... Chuck Lyons

I just watched your "How to Save Registrations" video..... and that is the way I have been doing it....except I save an entire song to just 1 button..... and I don't save different variations to several buttons.

Thanks.... Chuck

OK. You have two choices to do what you want.

But first, we should get on the same page with our terminology, which should avoid future misunderstandings. You have 8 registrations in a file. Your files are named A, B1, B2, etc. And these files are stored in the root of your USB.

Choice #1: Use one bank/song
-- convert your registrations from buttons to banks. Then each song would be in a bank (which is Yamaha terminology for a file), and you would have 8 buttons for each song. You could then name each file by the name of the song, and your keyboard would sort the files alphabetically.
-- You can use Murray Best's Registration Manager program to convert all your registrations in one batch. It will name each file after your button name, so if it's the name of the song, you've saved yourself a lot of renaming.
-- Once you've done that, you get on with the task of linking your registrations with songs in SongBook.

Choice #2: Stick with one song/button
-- To have SongBook load the right registration, they need to be on the hard drive.
-- So move all your registration files to a folder on your hard drive. I would name this folder REGIST.
-- You would move only the registration files. Leave the other files where they are. Your registrations expect them to be on your USB, so leave them there.
-- Once you have your folder of registrations on the hard drive, then you link them to SongBook.

Let me know which option you've chosen, and I'll help you out with the link to SongBook.

Thank you...Thank you Fred.  Let me work on this a couple days...... and I will get back with you. Watching your videos...... I really like the way you set this up.  Makes a lot more sense. I thought I was shot down because music finder won't work with registrations..... but using your method..... it is super fast to get to a song. I do have some questions about song book...... but I will wait until I get this situated.
I will get busy.

Thanks..... Chuck

Thanks for all your help Fred..... I did what you suggested and went with one bank.... one song.  It has taken me several hours to individually save my songs..... but it works.  I now can see all my songs as I scroll through them in list view.  Works great.  Still working on it.....have over 300 songs in.... have about 50 more to go. And then I can work on Songbook+.  I will watch your video again on songbook.

Thanks for your help......Chuck

Fred......thanks for all your help.  It took me several hours of work.....but I set up everything the way you suggested.  Works like a charm.  I can now look at my list view.....and there are all my 345 registrations in alphabetical order.  I can get to scroll to any song in a couple seconds.  My next step will be working on setting up all the songs to work with my IPad.  I watched the video you posted and I think I can handle it.  I will have to get to it in a couple weeks.....busy right now.  Thanks for your suggestions because this works like the music finder for me.
