TWO QUESTIONS FOR BOSE L1 COMPACT OWNERS

1. Would appreciate knowing your suggested L1 cable length(s).

2. Would appreciate your L1 placement suggestions for various types of situations.

Thanks,

- Royce

To answer the second question first, two to three feet in each of three directions:
   a. away from any wall behind the unit,
   b. behind me, and
   c. to my right or left.

I suffered some hearing loss in the field artillery so usually place the unit on my right so my "good ear"  can best judge how things sound. Once in a while conditions at a venue dictate placement on my left.

Ten or twelve foot cable lengths are usually adequate to meet the foregoing placement parameters but I also keep a couple of twenty footers coiled up in the bottom of the gig box, just in case there are unusual conditions and as emergency spares.

That's what extension cords are for. I always carry one with me.

I found that an extension cord on a multi-plug reel is very convenient. I eventually needed to carry two, although I rarely have needed the second one in my typical venues. (Usage might change when I convert from my CPS Spacestation v.3 to the Bose L1 Compact.)

There are many models, but this is what I've been using:

https://www.amazon.com/Woods-4907-Extension-4-Outlets-Circuit/dp/B0037W5W38/ref=sr_1_16?s=lamps-light&ie=UTF8&qid=1533049755&sr=1-16&keywords=extension+cord+reel

Most of the time I could hide it behind my speaker/amp.

This raises my curiosity as to what other gig players are using.

Thanks Royce. I want a lightweight cable, as I have only the keyboard and the Bose needing power. My accordion is the traditional type powered by air and my tired arm😀

In my case, everything plugs into a surge protector that is inside my custom made console. I have a 20-foot extension cord permanently attached to this, thus providing me with 10 outlets that all the devices stay plugged into, making my setup a piece of cake.

Take a look at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmLyw_BGteU and the console set up begins at 5:52.

While I appreciate the convenience of the multi-plug reel I am concerned that a failure of any of its elements renders the entire device unusable so I opt for separate, individually replaceable, elements.  First, a  multi-outlet surge protector with 15 foot cord.  This serves alone in most venues. The particular one I use is no longer on the market but it is similar to this:
https://www.amazon.com/Tripp-Lite-Outlet-Safety-TLM815NS/dp/B000WJ9W80/

Where the surge protector cord is too short, a 50 foot orange outdoor extension cord is brought into play (no pun intended).  Orange color helps eliminate tripping by me or the customers and Outdoor quality addresses any cases where there are dampness/moisture issues at the venue. I don't actually play outdoors.
https://www.amazon.com/Epicord-Outdoor-Extension-Conductor-Indoor/dp/B076ZY6GTC/

To manage the extension cord I use a simple manual reel:
https://www.amazon.com/Alert-Stamping-500WR-Wrap-n-Carry-Extension/dp/B000W67G72/

Sorry, this rig does not meet Toril's specification of a lightweight solution but has ruggedness to recommend it.

Like Gary, I built a console patterned after his.   I have a surge protector in the console with all the powere connections I need.   Really saves on set up.
