Dear Colleagues
I currently have the 'Celtic' Pack installed on my 970 (by myself !!) and can select from it without any problems so I'm pleased to have done that right initially. I now want to upload for example the 'Salsa' pack. Do I have to first uninstall/delete or back to factory settings to remove the Celtic pack totally before trying to replace it ??? This is me confusing myself with what I think I have to do in theory, so my apologies for not grasping what many seem to do with ease and for not asking sooner. Truth is there are so many highly skilled members, I'm overwhelmed by the technical 'know how' you all have and embarrassed at my lack of understanding but am struggling with this issue and really want to 'get it' once and for all. I have the latest YEP version on my Laptop and my 3 Exp Packs are all 'PPI' files whatever that means ?. I would appreciate any help.
One day I will try and have a go at selecting different sounds/etc from different packs on YEM and combining it into 1 pack but for now Im sticking to 1 pack at a time.
Ideally what I need is 1-1 practical lessons in person with a '970' owner to go through these issues rather than watching YouTube videos and reading Manuals but I am having difficulty in locating a 970 owner in Northants or surrounding counties that would consider being prepared to show/teach me.
Very best wishes to you all
David

Hi David,
from user's manual, untill someone who owns an S970 gives you more instructions:

Installing the Expansion Pack data from the USB Flash Drive

The file which contains the bundled Expansion Packs ("***.ppi" or "***.cpi") to be installed to the instrument is referred to as "Pack Installation file." Only one Pack Installation file can be installed to the instrument. If you want to install multiple Expansion Packs, bundle the packs together on your computer by using the "Yamaha Expansion Manager" software. For information on how to use the software, refer to the accompanying manual.
-------------------
So all the job with combining the packs must be done on your computer and not on your keyboard.
I don't think a factory reset is necessary.
Maybe you have to delete the pack from the keyboard before installing the new one,
or I think the keyboard will just asks for your permission  to delete the old pack when it finds the new one.
So maybe you will need help how to combine these 3 packs using the "Yamaha Expansion Manager"  on your computer?

Dear Panos - Thank you very much. I will give this a go and see how it goes - Really appreciate your reply :)

This is what will happen. You create a new installable pack in YEM, built from a single pack or multiple packs. When you install that pack to the S970, it will delete what's currently loaded and replace it with the new installable pack.

Combining packs in YEM really is just as simple as ticking the voices you want from those packs, and keeping an eye on the 'total size' meters at the top of the YEM window.

Dear DerekA - Many thanks :) Will let you know how I get on ?????..Promise !!

DC,

You say you only have the .ppi files.  What you will need is the .ppf files.  These are the files that you load into the YEM software (Yamaha Expansion Manager).  it is in YEM you can combine several packs into a single Installation File (.ppi), thereby loading several packs at once.  There is no other way to do it.

Dear Joe H - Thank you for your reply. I presently have 3 packs in YEP, Celtic, Salsa and Best of Europe. How do I get the 'PPF' files ??? I have started from the beginning again and when importing packs I only get either .ppi or .cpi but no .ppf ????? Im doing something wrong but don't know what !!
Thank You
Dave

You have the old format for the S750 and S950 keyboards. Yes they will load as "Content".

I would try creating a New Pack and importing each .yep file into YEM... then "Export Pack" as .ppf.

Once you do that, then load the three .ppf files as packs.  now you can check the 3 packs to create an Installation file with all 3 packs that can be installed together.

OK Joe H - Will try and do this !! Will let you know how I get on, so thanks again.

Sadly everyone, I have tried the above but to no success, I have emailed 'Yamaha Music Soft' just now for assistance so watch this space ! Thank you again to those of you that replied and please do not be insulted by my contacting YMS initially, they may have to reset my packs again so I can download them from scratch ???.
Have a good weekend
Dave

Dave,

Sounds like you bought the .yep packs.  If that is the case then you should be able to get free replacements in the newer  .ppf format for your new keyboard.

An Upate !!

Good Evening to you all

Well I stumbled on a 'Genos' tutorial to do with YEM, Exp Packs and USB sticks etc by chance on YouTube by Leigh Wilbraham https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdMMqEcKwz4 and followed it. I can now do it and have tried the 'Best of Europe' and 'Salsa' and have been able to transfer them onto my 970 this evening individually so again, thank you Leigh and everyone who commented.
Sincerely
Dave :) :) :) :) :) :)
