I've downloaded the free Stage Pack from the 'Other Downloads' section here: https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/tyros5/downloads.html#product-tabs.

I've followed the installation rules using Expansion Manager for both wireless and USB transfer and both have failed.

For wireless, the process starts briefly then I get a message on the Tyros saying the operation was cancelled and to switch on and off again. Expansion Manager reports a disk error message '0x8002001d'.

For USB, having first obtained and loaded the 'Tyros5_Instrumentinfo.27' file onto the USB stick, I've successfully saved the pack as 'TYROS5_PackInstallData.ppi' on the USB stick. Then I've tried to install the pack from 'Function/Pack Installation' into the Tyros and got a message saying 'Unsupported Format Type'.

I've managed to load various non-Yamaha stuff into my expansion memory using Expansion Manager so I think I'm doing the process OK.

Can anyone help please?

Hi Frozzers,

I'm not sure if that extension of ppi is a typo but it should be .ppf.

From the instructions:-

After unpacking the file, import the "Stage_Pack.ppf" file into "Yamaha Expansion Manager" and create an installation file or transfer the data wireless to your Tyros5.

Also, the name that you wrote doesn't seem right, it should be Stage_pack.ppf once unpacked.

Thanks Martin but still no joy.

The wireless route keeps cancelling for no obvious reason so sticking with the USB route, in Expansion Manager, I seem to have 2 options:

1. click on 'My Packs' and, from the right arrow, select 'Export Pack'. This then gives me the option to save the pack to USB stick as a .ppf file eg 'Stage_Pack.ppf'. But then after I've inserted the stick, the file won't show up in the 'Pack Installation' screen.

2. click on 'Tyros 5' under 'Install Target'. This then loads the instrument data. When I click on 'Save as Pack Install File', I only get the option to save it as a .ppi file. I then save this to the USB stick as 'Stage_Pack.ppi' and I get a message 'The Pack Installation File has been created'. Then I insert the stick into the Tyros and go to the 'Pack Installation' screen where it shows up as 'Stage_Pack' but, when I select 'Install', a message 'Unsupported format type' appears and it won't install.

Very frustrating.

I've got plenty of other stuff to be playing around with so it's not critical at the moment, after all it's free! I'm more bothered about whether or not I'll not have this problem in the future with any purchased expansion packs. Let's wait and see.

Thanks again.

Hi Frozzers,

Yes, that is strange. ???

I would give Yamaha support a ring and go through the installation with them, they are always very helpful.

Cheers Martin.

I've emailed them as it was a bit long-winded. I'll report back when I hear.

Happy to report I've now installed it.

It turned out I needed the latest firmware update. Thanks to Daniel Watt at Yamaha UK for that.

I'm just relieved to know I was doing it right!

Curious about this pack. What it is?
It's only 746k, is that right?
