Which sources do you mostly use if the song is not in the Musicfinder?

Hi Everyone. Last 3 weeks I have investigate getting to know my new T5. Now it's time for the playing. There is an overwhelming offer of (converted) styles, registrations, voices etc.etc.  So many that it is important how to organize and searching. Of course I haven't explored all those styles, even many of the 'basic' presets are still a secret. Fyi I'm 110% a hobby-player and my playing skills are EZ-play-classification, but I like challenges in hoping to get a better player  ;)

Now about the playing. I whish to study 2 songtitles, moviethemes in this case. I can't find them in the Musicfinder. The songtitles are 'Once upon a time in the West' and the 'Pirates of the Caribean'. I guess that the most 'luxury' way would be creating (but now a bridge to far for me  ;)): a (song)style (or one suit to that), a midi-file and a registration of that song. There are so many sources :-\

So I'm curious which procedure is the most effective way to search for a certain song for you. Regards Ton37

Hello Ton,

For a nice "once upon a time in the west" I can advice you to have a look here.
https://www.keyboardsoftware.nl/index.php?route=product/product&path=60_76&product_id=1161

And for "pirates of the caribean" you may like the software from 'Soundwonderland' from Heidrun Dolde
https://soundwonderland.de/page/shop/produktinfo_combi.php?id=121

I have both bought them there in the period I had still my T5. I must say honnest, they are very nice and sound 'terrible' good  8)

Good luck and enjoy your Tyros 5.

Hij Marcel and Morgen, thank you for the website_adresses. The soundwonderlandsite is very interesting. Will the search for look-a-like styles or registration for a participatie song mostly end on a commercial site or are there free alternatives?
My best regards,
Ton

There are free possibilities, but what is wrong in buying it for a couple of Euros, when you want to enjoy quality.
Btw, if you can buy a new T5 then a couple of extra Euros will not make any difference.
It's a long term investment and also a hobby.
;)

Hi Ton,

You can find lots of stuff right here on PSR Tutorial: https://psrtutorial.com/sty/index.html
Styles, gig disks, registrations, voices, multipads and songs. If you want to learn more about your Tyros  then you should certainly have a look at the lessons and workshops.

Pretty much everything you need to keep busy the next year!

Also interesting: http://www.createsongstyles.com/  and  http://styles-24.de/epages/ff46e5fa-0caf-4a2e-ae78-efc83c5c1922.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/ff46e5fa-0caf-4a2e-ae78-efc83c5c1922/Categories/%22Styles%20Tyros%205%22

Also check this site for many tips on Tyros 5, scroll down a bit and look for an arrow on the left that says 'Start here' :

And attached a list that might help find a suitable style.

Marcel, I don't understand your (over)reaction. I simply whishes to get grip on the search-proces of the  forummembers who, I guess, have much experience with this. If The Musicfinder doesnot helps, what to do than. The songtitels are just an example.

@Stijn, thank you. This is helpful. Being mostly on this Forum, the pstutorial site is almost forgotten.   :-[
Thanks, regards Ton

The style for Pirates is on the keyboard in Movie and Shows called Movie Soundtrack.

Try Ethereal Movie for Once upon time in the West.

When I learn to play a song or a melody, I try many styles untill I found the more suitable for the song/melody.
There is almost always at least one preset suitable style for the song.
For example:
In my old dgx which could play only preset styles I remember I found the characteristic drum pattern of  magnetic fields II in the B variation of a style called Cowboyboogie and I have just muted the other parts of the style, changed the tempo and played it.

If I like the song too much I search the forum or the internet for the style and modify it as I wish.
If I don't find any style on the internet I use the assembly feature in the style creator and/or use midi2style of mr Jorgen to extract some parts from a midi file.

Thanks Panos. I recognise what you have written. When I had my last keyboard (Technics KN7000) I was very familiar with that one. One could easily compile a new rythm with the presets. The bass, rythm 1 and 2, chord 1,2 or 3 of variation 1,2,3 or 4 and/or intro and endings could be changed between themselves in the keyboard itself. Maybe a little tweaking afterthat, and done.  But one has to listen to each single sound if it suits to the one I needed. And that was very time-consuming, but (sometimes :() pleasant to do. I had the advantage that I have had the whole Technics keyboards range and know them very well. Now after 7/8 years non playing I have to discover the Tyros5 where all is hidden and if all those posibilities are in it. But I'm in a learning process ... ;) 8)

Your Tyros can do the same thing.
You can "copy" lets say just the electric bass from main A of the hard rock style and "paste" it in the hiphop style in main C and then change the sound from electric bass to trance bass for example.
Its an easy way to combine patterns from one style to another without worry if the pattern is correct when you play the chords and doesn't take too much time.
As long it is a yamaha pattern it is correct when you choose organs of similar category.
(e.g. use the bass pattern as something that the notes were written for a bass could play.
So better not choose to change the sound from bass to saxophone or violin because some chords may sound strange and you need to go to the parameter tab to adjust some things that only few can tell for sure  :-\).

This feature of Yamaha's keyboards is called "Assembly" and is in the style creation folder.
1.Function
2.F letter (Digital rec menu)
3.B letter (Style Creator)
4.Press right tab and now you are at the Assembly tab.
Search the forum for topics with style creator.
For new psr series, tyros series (and i guess genos too) the style creator function is the same.

The easy way to find a style is to hum the tune in your head (or out loud) while running through a few possible styles on the keyboard. You can usually do this in a minute by tapping in the likely tempo then just cycling through possible style candidates without stopping, because a couple of seconds of the style are usually enough to know if it's a possible or not. ( to do this you need to set up the keyboard so it doesn't default to the pre set tempo when you change styles).
And you don't need to try every style - it's obvious for example that country waltz or Latin rhythms are not going to work for Pirates of the Caribbean so usually easy to home in on a few. Then get a short list by trying them.
You can also of course just post the question here and get suggestions, but I think its better in the long run to learn to use your ears to do it yourself.

Hi @Panos and @mikf. Thank you sincerely for your extensive answers. This explanation inspires to dive into that function. I haven't had time to examen that, but it is certain that I will going to look into that function soon and I'm glad to read that the Tyros has those possibilities too  ;D. Regardz Ton. 8)
