Greetings to my forum friends,

I decided to post my complete updated Club Dance 2016 Styles and Multi Pad collection on this new thread because I have done a lot of Voice editing and have added 4 more new styles for a total of 24 styles in all plus I added 7 or 8 new Multi Pads to go with these new styles.

New styles include: Bouncy Trance, KandiTronic, Pop Trance - (custom styles from the QY100),  EuroBeat is a remix from the Pro 9000, and I did a remix of the Step Dance style to give it a different sound.

About My Club Dance 2016 Styles

To play these 24 EDM styles, you must have Yamaha's Euro Dance Expansion Pack installed on your keyboard.

I updated my Voice Definition file for MixMaster so I could do a better job of tracking the Voice conversions and went through all the styles and Multi Pads for the S950 and the Tyros keyboards and made many corrections on Voice assignments. So all the styles and Multi Pads should play better now.  The Euro Dance Voice messages are different for the two PSR models and also different from the Tyros 4 and 5. The S970 also has some Voices not found in any other keyboard.  There were more incompatibilities than I expected between the S970 and the Tyros 5.  I think the S970 version will play perfectly and sound the best.

Please follow the installation instructions exactly. The Multi Pads used by the styles are located in the folders with the styles, even the Euro Dance Multi Pads.  The style will use the copies I put in the folder and not the ones on your User Drive.

Attached are the 3 versions of my styles collection for the S950 Euro Dance, S970 Euro Dance and Tyros 4 & 5 Euro Dance. If you play these on the S750 and S770, it is likely you will have to find many substitute Preset Voices for style parts. The Euro Dance Voices were converted for the S950 and Tyros 4/5 using a special Voice List file I created for use in MixMaster.

I had a difficult time converting some Voices for the DJ Multi Pads which used Voices unique to the S970.  If you have an S950 or Tyros you may have to edit a few Multi Pads Voices that don't sound right or adjust the volume a bit.

Playing EDM on the arranger keyboard is a little different than that of other genre of music. Especially when using the new arpeggiator and LIVE CONTROL features on the S970. The idea behind this remix is to use them in registration banks to build a song or instrumental arrangement. The styles are built so that typically only some of the style Parts may be used at any one time, and that Multi Pads can be used in their place or to compliment each style Section.

For the PSR S970 version, some of the R1/R2 Voices have an Arpeggio or Echo assigned to them with the default setting = Off, so playing the arp is optional by pressing the Harmony/Arp button or memorizing it in a registration.

Arpeggio Hold can be set to either on or off. You will get slightly different responses with how the arps play with each setting.

FUNCTION -> UTILITY -> CONFIG2 -> ARPEGGIO -> HOLD: ON / OFF

The Arp Hold parameter can also be assigned to a foot switch.

Default LIVE CONTROL assignments are as follows:
Knob 1 = Arpeggio Note Velocity
Knob 2 = Arpeggio Gate Time (most arps will play best with knob 2 set at the 10:00 o'clock position, but useful variations on how the arp plays can be achieved from the 9:00 o'clock position to straight up 12:00 o'clock position.

Variations in the Arp Volume are achieved using knob 1 to increase or decrease the Arp level output.  This will also add a nuance to some of the Voices that have Filter mapped to Velocity

Master EQ and Master Compressor
These settings will change how the styles sound on your individual keyboard.  My Master Compressor is set to the preset – Moderate which I think is good for EDM.

Speakers versus headphones.
I only use headphones when mixing or playing my keyboard, so in addition to the EQ and Compressor settings, using the speakers and factoring your room acoustics, you may need to adjust the styles a bit to suit your own tastes.

Installing the Style Pack
After you unzip the file, open the folder with the keyboard name on it and copy the folder named Club Dance 2016 to the Root directory of your USB 1 drive.  Do not rename the folder or rename or move any of the files inside the folder.  This is necessary so when you play a style the keyboard will find the Multi Pads assigned to each of the styles.

I have included the PDF file that was with the original download with these instructions and a few other details.  This collection represents many months of composing, arranging, and many long hours of post production editing and remixing.  I hope you will enjoy this style and Multi Pad collection and can make use of it.

PS: Style #25 can be found at Reply #25

Cheers,
Joe H

To Mark Z, John, Torben, Del and Thomas,

Thank you all for the well wishes.  This project has been a real learning experience.  I have a couple more style  projects lined up for 2017.

I am currently converting Jan's (styles2psr) custom styles for the S950 Euro Dance Pack to play on the S970 and Tyros 4 and 5 Euro Dance packs.  Next I will be creating some new and different (and better I hope) EDM styles also for the Euro Dance Pack... with a different sound.  I particularly like Uplifting Trance music so I think that will be my focus.

Merry Christmas and wishing the best in 2017 to everyone here.

Cheers,
Joe H

Hi Joe thanks a lot for the up date; have a great week; all the best Patrick

Hey montage, thank you for your very kind comments.

There is always room for improvement.  I have been trying to find ways to make style creation easier.  We need better software tools.  For example: a utility that could batch process an entire directory of MIDI Loops to transpose them to CMaj7 scale.  There would need to be several possible algorithms built into the software to transpose sharps and flats up or down to achieve the proper key signature for both style parts and Multi Pad creation.

Sometimes I wish I was a programmer so I could do this stuff myself.  I have encouraged the author of StyleMagic  to add certain new features that would radically improve style making.  I have appealed to another programmer with an idea for software that would create special "Style Phrases" we could use with Style Creator Assembly.

I have appealed directly to Yamaha to release style creator software that would allow us to build styles directly from MIDI Loops by just using a drag 'n drop or select from a "phrase library" and insert into the proper style Section and Part.  Maybe have the ability to build and save a library of our favorite OTS settings we could import into our custom made styles.   Then create the CASM and save as a style.

The idea is to have one complete; fully integrated style creator software that does it all.  Right now I must use 2 or 3 (or more) different programs to get things done.

Joe H

fikke and Patrick,  you are welcome.

I think you will hear some slight differences in the Multi Pads if you own an S950 or Tyros in particular.   I like the newest styles a lot and continue to try something different when I can.  For example: some of the styles do not have chord progressions recorded into the Intros or Endings.  This is deliberate.  I want to play my own chord progressions for the Intros and Endings so that I am not locked into any particular chord patterns for the styles as a whole.

Another example of something different is the new Pumping Pad 2 that plays along with KandiTronic Main C.  One more example is heard on Bouncy Trance Main D Phrase 2.  There I recorded two variations of the phrase on alternate channels.  So you will hear the phrase play one way with Major chords, differently with Minor chords and a third way with 7th chords.  I'm starting to get other ideas too.  I would like to try out a lengthy Interlude I might program into an Intro or create as a Multi Pad bank that would play only with the style drums (or maybe no drums). The Interlude could have  Filter sweeps, Pan Sweeps, slow Volume buildup ending with a Bass drop to lead you back into a Main Section.

Constructive feedback is always welcome.  It is not easy to get everything right without some kind of feedback.  None of us can be 100% objective because we are too close to our work to see (or hear) the errors.

Cheers,
Joe H

montage,

You are very kind.  I see what your age is listed in your profile.  It's good you like this kind of music.  Many people your age do not.  It keeps us young.  And you are lucky to have both a Tyros 5 and a Montage keyboard.  You can make lots of good music too.

By the way... I am 14 years older than you and I like dance music a lot.  And also I have been playing music for 50 years myself.

Music is one of the best things we have in this world... next to having some real true friends.

Cheers,

Hi Roger,

Well, since the styles are FREE, there is no "risk" when trying them out and no one can complain they paid too much.   :D

Professional?  Not yet, but I'm working on it!   ;)

I'm not sure why the Like button has been disabled on this page all day.  I've exited the forum and reentered.  I've even rebooted my computer, but nothing has changed.  Maybe this is only happening to me and it will just fix itself in due time.

In an effort to keep the forum functioning as it should be, if anyone else is affected in the same manner, would you please let me know so I can report this to Joe Waters?

Roger,

I think there are some threads where there is no Like button.  For example I have never seen one on threads of performing members posting their music.  And I think  I have never seen one on threads related to this particular board for Voice and Expansion Pack Topics  ???

Roger,

I just looked under the heading : Understanding PSR/Tyros Features clicked on several of the boards there and it appears that all the sub topics under this Main Topic DO have a LIKE button.  And it is only the Voice and Style Expansion Packs board that is missing the LIKE button.

If you are referring to the Songs played by forum members board, Joe, the Like button is active there...at least for me!

I've seen this happen many times in the past, but it usually seems to repair itself in a short amount of time.  I was in this Topic a few times today and was going to give a Like, but couldn't do it.  I finally just commented, which was even better, because my comment about you was posted in all sincerity.

Thank you, Joe.  Yes, I've noticed that also, but I don't think it's always been that way.  I thought the Like button was supposed to be active in all boards.

I'll look at the administrative settings for this board.  If I can't repair it, or if it doesn't repair itself, I'll report it to Joe Waters.

Roger,

I took another look to be sure... this is the only board on the Understanding PSR/Tyros Features category that has no LIKE button.  Maybe you can have Joe Waters look into it.  If you take a look at it you will see that there has never been a Like button by looking at the history of threads posted since Joe W first created the board.

Take a look at the Like button now, Joe.  It was disabled in the administrative settings and I just enabled it!

I'm fairly certain that Joe didn't activate the Like button when he created the board, which would be easy to overlook in the settings.  I doubt he left this disabled on purpose, which is why I activated it.  Personally, I can't think of a reason not to enable it.  If Joe doesn't want it to be active, I'm sure he will let me know.

P.S. As the Original Poster, in this Topic, you have the first Like in the Voice and Style Expansion Packs board.

Well... I was playing some styles yesterday that I mixed for the S910 about 3 years back and found one I really liked.  This is called Chill Polo and was created by our forum friend Jan (styles2psr).  So I thought I would squeeze one more style in the Club Dance 2016 collection.

So here is style #25.  Just copy the Chill Polo style into your existing Club Dance 2016 folder on your USB 1 drive along with the other 24 styles. and place the 2 Chill Polo Pads in the Custom Pad folder with the rest of my custom pads.

Like all the rest of the styles, you can play the style with or without the Left Voice or Multi Pads or use them in any combination.  For PSR S970 owners, the OTS 2 for Main B uses an optional arpeggio.

While this particular style and 2 Pads use no Euro Dance Voices and will play on all keyboards from the Tyros 3 and newer, two additional pads are missing (unless you have already downloaded the full collection above and have the Euro Dance Pack installed) .  S750 and S770 players can use the S950 version of the Custom Pads and then the other two pads... ElectricHouse B and Gate + Pumper 1 should work fine.

I really like this one a lot... thanks Jan for creating this cool style!  And I hope you like my remix and custom Pads I created to go with it.

PS: You may have to tweak some parts of the style a bit to suit your own taste.

Cheers and Happy New Year!
Joe H
