S770 & S970 Brightness/Contrast settings ?

My previous PSR-S670 had a small knob for adjusting the LCD contrast,  I notice that its not on the S770 or S970.

I've checked both the User Manual and Reference manuals for the S770  but there's no mention of any way to adjust brightness or contrast so assume these are pre-set at the factory with no user settings.   Having checked the pics of the S750 and S950 models,  it appears they also didn't have any controls/settings either.   So I assume it's Yamaha's practice not to give the user any settings for Brightness/Contrast of the LCD panel.

Only black and white displays for PSR arrangers, could be different for Tyros.

I agree the PSR displays have mostly been B&W,  but the new S770/S970 models use 7" colour displays. In any case, whether it's a B&W or Colour,  it's still nice to have contrast/brightness settings, but it looks like Yamaha thinks we don't need them.

The early Tyros Screens had the same adjustment but with either T2 or T3 Yamaha brought out a new screen which did not need it.    The screens on the new 970 and 770 are of the new type and do not need any kind of adjustment.    You will find them just perfect.

AYS Probably not needed.   I just thought, as it's easy enough to do in software, they might have given the option so users could tweak display to their own personal taste,  but no big deal, it's not like one is watching TV on it...lol

I dont know if the early, or any, PSR`s had the facility, but with these new screens you can put your own image on as background and Yamaha also give you a good choice of preset backgrounds to chose from.       My Tyros looks good with a snowy night scene of our road.   Just turn any Jpeg into a Bitmap and you have a great choice.

Cheers...yes..sounds good, as the type of background one uses can make a big difference.   As someone who was raised in days when there was no TV in the UK, and the first TV's showing just one channel (BBC)  were enormous size with tiny 9" screens,  contrast and brightness controls were the norm of course,  often with a focus control at the back..lol.    Of course focus controls no longer needed after the demise of CRT TV's.  They have certainly come along way since then, and dirt cheap too considering what you get.  Kids today don't realise how fortunate they are, though with the amount of rubbish they show, I'm not sure 'Fortunate' is the right word. ;)

PSR-S900 had a contrast control but that disappeared with the S910. New screen technology obviated the need.

It don't mean a thing...

The S910 screen is very bright.

Based on what we see with the new S770 ans S970, the screen colors are less harsh, so brightness should not be a problem. And there will be no more B/W displays for the upper-end S series arrangers

That's what I mean Joe,  I've  seen LCD screens which to me seemed a little too bright, though everyone will have their own preference how bright they like their displays to be, the same with tablets or mobile phones,  but they of course have settings for brightness.  for the sake of pennies I can never understand why they omit to include some adjustment on our keyboards too.   That way users can set it to whatever they prefer.  However it does seem to be the norm on the majority of keyboard instruments not to give the user that option, and it's not just Yamaha, but many others too IME.

After-all you wouldn't buy a TV or computer Monitor without those basic controls being available, and in reality that's all the Keyboard display is... a small simple monitor,  IOW just because the guy in the factory likes his screens to be bright, or even a little on dark side doesn't mean the customer will,  as it depends on the rooms ambient lighting too,  whereas for a few pence some setting could have been added, so everyone's happy.  It's probably me just being picky...lol

You're absolutely right! That's why I asked - to find out. I have never knowingly used any of the Fn keys, and now you have drawn them to my attention, I see that they've got symbols on them, indicative of the Functions that they perform.

"Poor old soul", I hear the sympathetic sighs of you all. Thank you for your concern.
