Hi all,

Sorry if this question has been asked before. I have searched the forum, but still not really sure.
I do not seek a super detailed reply !!!!
1). Can I set up so that subwoofer volume can be raised / lowered using the keyboard?
2). If it can be, does it create any known issues?

Thanks all,
Steve

hi Steve,
Technically, no matter what subwoofer you use and no matter what keyboard you use, you can not change the volume of subwoofer on keyboard. Subwoofer volume can only be set on subwoofer itself.

It goes something like this:
1. Connect subwoofer to keyboard, set volume on subwoofer to zero and set MASTER VOLUME on keyboard to the volume you mostly use (let's say at 11 o'clock position).
2. Start some style that you're familiar with and slowly increase volume on subwoofer, until you hear the difference in bass area. That is, you wish to get subwoofer and keyboard speakers in balance. You can slightly increase volume on subwoofer (to your liking), but "bass" shouldn't stand out!

What you just did, is your default setting. From now on you can change volume of keyboard and subwoofer (at the same time) by using MASTER VOLUME on keyboard. That is, if you increase volume, subwoofer will also become louder. Keep in mind, that EQ settings also influence subwoofer loudness and so I would recommend you to use a flat EQ setting at adjusting volume on subwoofer.

It's up to you to decide, but I would never use KS-SW100 with keyboard. The reason for that is, because it has no low-pass filter setting. And that means (simplified), it's impossible to get it in balance with speakers on keyboard.

Technical specs aside, I have one on display, and don't think the bass is clean or tight enough on it.

I'd rather get the Yamaha HS8s sub instead (to be fair, that's nearly triple the price, though)

Obviously, if you get a chance to hear one hooked up to an sx920 yourself first, that would be ideal.

Depends; if you a fixed output, the sub will obviously not change volume without turning the sub volume itself up.
I just tried it on our sx920, and using the Left main out, it *is* a variable volume output, meaning volume does vary with the sx920 volume.

However, the range doesn't line up (the sub gets not enough input at lower volumes, and above 60% on the PSR, it actually distorts the sub)

I have a SX720 and a Presonus Eris Sub 8. Short answers:

Yes

Quote2). If it can be, does it create any known issues?
No, but I only use a small volume control range from "9 o'clock" to "1 o'clock".

I was in the process of thinking of the HS8 SUB with the HS8 studio monitors actually....

My KS-SW100 was in a sale (new) at only £100 so I thought I would snap it up.
So might sell on eBay and go with the HS8S AND HS8 SM.......

Hi Steve,

Please note that the KS-SW100 subwoofer is NOT connected to one of the "SUB (AUX) Output" jacks, but to the "MAIN Output L/L+R" jack. Then the subwoofer volume is affected, as is correct, by the MASTER VOLUME control, i.e. depending on the set volume of the internal speakers.

By the way, the human ear usually perceives the sub-bass as too little when the overall volume is low, so you will probably have to slightly increase the volume directly on the subwoofer.

Conversely, if the overall volume is very high, you will have to set the subwoofer volume slightly lower than your standard setting for a medium overall volume.

Best regards,
Chris

Hey guys, not to derail the original question but when I was reading this, it got my attention about my setup.  Can you tell me the way I have set mine up is the correct best setup?

I have a pair of HS5 powered studio monitor connected to the back of Hs8 studio subwoofer.  The HS8 is connected to the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen.  My Yamaha A5000 is connected to the Scarlett along with my M-Audio 88 key controller.  Scarlett is connected to the PC that is running Keyscape.

I have the HS5 volume at 12 O'clock and the HS8 volume is set about 8 or 9.  From here on I don't touch the volume knobs on Yamaha monitor or sub.  I just use the main volume on Scarlett.
