MIDI to Style file (Sty) only plays Intro

Hi
I'm new to this using MIDI file to create Sty files so please bear with me.

I create a style using the Midi Song to Style software but when I play the file on the keyboard it seems to repeat the into again and again.
e.g. the intro to Pretty Woman plays the first drum beat section combined with the guitar riff then goes back to the beginning.

I have tried many MIDI files from many locations. I even bought a MIDI file from Yamaha.

Any ideas please?

Many thanks

Have you saved the style and loaded it onto your keyboard, played it there? The Intro buttons don't usually repeat, only the MAIN A,B,C,D buttons repeat. Auditioning it from the program, yes, it might repeat. I think this is a setting you can toggle on/off.

You can go into the Edit section of the program and check, make sure nothing has been duplicated or is longer than it should be.

Hi,
I tried converting MIDI to Style after watching the Yamaha video and another video, which I can no longer find, where the player created Greensleeves style both using the Yamaha soft ware. It looked easy on the video so I thought that I would give it a try.

Since my previous question I have played with the main variations buttons on the keyboard and obtained some results. Some songs won't convert. e.g. Man of Mystery by the Shadows. This starts off with two long notes varying in pitch played on the 12th fret (E4 on a keyboard), followed by four note on the bottom string (E1). This is repeated then the tune begins.

I get the high note and the four low notes repeated over and over.

I don't want to get involved with editing MIDI/Style files. Changing instruments and deleting tracks using Anvil is about as far as I want to go so I'll put the MIDI to style idea on the back burner for now.

Thanks for your time.

Regards

Probably a sensible decision especially if you do covers!  I have struggled for hours on both midi2style and the Yamaha software and got a fair result BUT at what cost. I only use song styles (never presets) so it's way, way easier to download the style (or 100 of them!!!) in the same time it takes you to build one from midi. I can understand people who compose their own music maybe wanting a unique style but with cover versions of songs it's sooo much easier to find a ready made one ..I always seem to find what I need and so far one one style has eluded me (cadillacs hillbilly music by Dwight Yokam)  Unless you have tons of time to kill just download what you need!!

I have used Midi to Style with no problems on many MIDI files. It really is simple to use and occasionally I have to change it selected for Main A, B, C, and D, switching from the Easy screen to the Edit screen, but with some practice and understanding it works well. The only thing I can think of it that the MIDI is not good quality. Post the MIDI's you are having troubles with and see if we can tell what is wrong.

For my first attempt with Midi Song to Style I picked what I thought was an easy midi, a nice but simple song. It did a terrible job (Easy mode). The midi itself might not have been the best either but it didn't even find an Intro, which is usually at the beginning of songs LOL It was selecting it from the middle. Weird.

I think maybe instead of picking a song I want to do, the next time I will pick a good midi with very distinct parts, just so it's easier to recognise A,B,C,D, fills and breaks etc. while I get used to manoeuvring around the program. I still have hope.

Aprilla,

In the Edit mode you can decide where you want the intro to be by dragging it to the new position, then you can lengthen or shorten the clip to exactly what you want.
The better the MIDI, the better the results I have found.

Easy mode gives very bad results. Open Edit view, delete all Parts and start from the beginning. You can watch three videos in which I describe working with MIDI Song to Style.

It's a really good tutorial Casper, thanks.

Casper,

Thanks for these videos, I wish I had them when Midi to Style first came out, it would have saved me hours of figuring it out on my own. And thanks for the English!  ;D
