Revoicing midis using Instrument Definition Genos2, PSR-SX920, etc. (Opinions)

Although this is a general question, I came here because of Genos2 users, thinking that many of them have a long experience using keyboards and software.

In your opinion, is it worth doing the revoice from the PC or directly on the keyboard? I ask because some time ago someone thought that using INS files (for Cakewalk users) was unnecessary and that it was more practical to do it on the keyboard.

My opinion on doing it on the PC goes a little further, I think that using the keyboard less will keep it more "preserved" physically, the buttons, the display, etc.

What do you think about this? Does using software also mean taking care of the keyboard?

An interesting question that I can only attempt to answer through experience. It took over 16 years for my trusty Tyros 2 to develop a keyboard fault - certain keys not sounding - (repaired twice) and that was after some pretty rough treatment. I did use a rigid flight case with wheels (made in Belgium), but sometimes hauling it over rough ground didn't help!  The Yamaha keyboards are fairly robust but are electronic instruments at the end of the day.

I too use the free software ilustrated in your post (PSRUTI) and while it is good for some things it's very quirky for others (drums for example). Heiko Plate, the creator, has not made any major upgrades as far as I can tell. MixMaster v24r2 is more friendly and has a LIST function that I find invaluable for quick edits.  Cubase is the most useful for important stuff for me anyway.  Unless you have your keyboard connected via MIDI you will not get the Yamaha keyboard sounds which I'm sure you know. Simple answer is use whatever is approriate to the task at hand.

I've had the Genos 2 for almost 2 months now and I promise to treat it with more care as I'm no longer gigging. However, a new friend of a friend, a drummer who was playing in Hamburg at the time of the Beatles wants to bring his Ludwig kit over to my house 8)
