Ethereal Movie style on SX900 variation D problem

The Ethereal Movie style preset on my SX900 does not consistently transition to the more complex Variation D.

The D variation simply quits and does not play fully, though I can hear a string part or two playing. The only way I can get all the style parts playing is by stopping and re-starting the accompaniment. On some occasions it will transition OK but not often. I did tests where I did not rush the transition from C to D and I would say 80% of the time the D variation still just quits. I suspect the keyboard memory or polyphony cannot handle all the layering.

I have never seen a complaint about this but this issue has been present ever since I bought the keyboard. Anyone else experience the same?

Hi,
this style may have an error.
Try downloading this style from the website
https://psrtutorial.com/sty/yamaha/psr-sx900.html

Then make a copy of the style to a pendrive.
Run the style from the pendrive.
Then you will know if the style in the sx900 memory has an error
or if there is another problem.

You need to download all styles MOVIE&SHOW and unpack the ZIP:
MOVIE&SHOW - 43 (35) Styles

Best regards

Hi Rich,

The reason for the problem you describe may be the set TEMPO. Even if such FreePlay Styles do not have an audible rhythm, they still have an internal Style Tempo.

Since FreePlay Styles contain very long MIDI notes, it is possible that certain notes are not retriggered when changing chords or variations and therefore do not sound if the set Style Tempo does not "roughly" match the song being played. I therefore recommend that you experiment with different Tempo settings.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Chris,

I'll take a look at the tempo settings, it could very well be that. I many cases though I thought I was selecting Ethereal Movie straight from the style preset menu and figured the preset would already have the appropriate tempo set? But I'll check again. I don't seem to have this issue with Ethereal Voices and On Broadway freeplay styles.

Increasing and decreasing tempo seems to not solve the issue. Ethereal Movie defaults at 96, which I assume is Yamaha's optimum tempo for this style and is usually the tempo I play it at. Variation D seems to push the SX900 processor to the limit, and when it does work there is always a slight millisecond delay before it plays fully. I suppose I could replace the style to see if it is corrupt but I doubt that is the problem. I asked in my original post here if others have experienced this issue.

No, never had an issue with the style not working fully or hiccuping. I just tried on our display sx900. No issues... Hopefully yours is still under warranty?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your response. I am out of the warranty period. I had always assumed this was just a defect with the preset style and had never asked if anyone else experienced this until now. Since it's just this style and one variation, I guess it's more of just disappointment rather than needing to find out if something is wrong with the processor or memory. I suspect something with the processor because Variation D is a very rich, thick sound...who knows.

Have you tried a 1.11 firmware reinstall? Maybe this will solve your issue.
