Is it just me?  The SA2 tenor sax does not sound anywhere near as good on the SX920 as it does on my Tyros 4.   Both keyboards using an EV50M.

Thank you.

Hi Vic,

According to the Tyros4 Data List, the Panel voice "TenorSax" is not an SA2 but "just" a "Sweet!" Voice. There is also a "TenorSax" in the Tyros4 Legacy Voice folder. This is obviously a "Regular" voice. The SX920 SA2 "TenorSax" is therefore a completely different voice.

In the SX920 Legacy Voice folder there is the "TenorSax2" (Sweet!) and the "TenorSax3" (Regular). Have you tried these voices yet? Maybe one of them sounds more like what you're used to from the Tyros4...

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Hi Chris and Vic

My T4 has 4 SA2 sax voices and 9 SA1 sax voices and yes Tenor Sax shows up as a sweet voice only.  I'm also biased however as I always think that nothing sounds better than my Tyros 4 (haha!)  I'm wondering however if Yamaha use the same name for voices that might sound completely different on newer models .. even though they use the same or similar names? If voice creation was common throughout a range of keyboard why would they bother with a Legacy Folder? I would say that whether a voice is SA1, SA2 or even regular it doesn't mean a newer model using the same name will sound the same.

Hello Chris,
If my memory serves me right Tyros 4 did not have Super Articulation voices on it. Certainly not Super Articulation 2.
Like most things everyone hears things differently. The newer keyboards voices have been made to be more realistic to the actual
instrument. The SX920 is based on the Genos1 but if you prefer the older type sound then use the legacy ones. The choice is yours.

Chris is right. Tyros2 and then PSR-S900 were the first instruments to have Super-Articulation-1, Tyros3 then had Super-Articulation-2 Voices and SFF2 Styles.

I know the factory Styles on my PSR-S950 sound fuller and bolder than the ones on the SX920. I thought it was me just used to the S950, but I called my wife into the room to get her option.

I found the same style on both keyboards and she agreed the S950 sounded better.

I then took that S950 style and put it on a USB stick and played it with my SX920 keyboard and they both sounded the same. At least I know I got the EQ on the SX920 about the same as I had it on the S950. I thought I was missing something with the EQ.

Yamaha must have had a new set of EARS mixing the Country styles this time. We both heard a BUZZING sound on one Country style. I found the issue was the Guitar Voice in the CHD2 channel has the Distortion turned up to 127 in the style!!!

I really like all the new voices on the SX920.

I wonder who Yamaha uses to mix their styles.  In terms of country styles, how about contracting with some of the top flight engineers/mastering folks in Nashville, or something equivalent?  Maybe the same for other styles of music, as well.

Hi Eileen

The Tyros 4 certainly does have many SA1 and SA2 voices. In fact even the Legacy folder with the T3 voices has a generous mixture of SA1 and SA2 voices. I use them all the time. The Tyros 2 even had SA1 voices but AFAIK they hadn't incorporated the SA2 voices yet

Hello Chris,
It is many years ago I had my Tyros 4. It is that I just do not remember where the buttons were to operate these effects. Its no fun getting old.
