Hi folks,

I am not a master singer but i wanted to experiment with the vocoder function of my genos 2. I saw some fine examples of it on youtube. I dont want to break the bank for it and i have no idea what to search for. Could a headset do the trick? I have no intention to use it profecionaly so . . . . What do you guys sudgest?

Here is what I have used for years now and you can see and here me using a couple hundred times on my YouTube Channel using the link in my signature below>

This site offers the mic with the 1/4" plug that I use.

You can also call them and make sure they have it in stock and that it has the 1/4" plug for $80.

This seems like a very interesting alternative to my current Sure Beta 87A fixed mic.   This seems more portable . . . .

one question:  how is this mic WH20 powered ? does it need like batteries or what ?

thanks in advance.

It needs no power pack or batteries.

You will need an extension cord piece, my is a 4 foot length and it just plugs into the back of your keyboard.

Hello

There are several microphone types, I will narrow it to just two dynamic ones, the most popular is the Cardiod pattern, BUT is also the one gets feedback the most, I recommend you the Hyper or Super Cardiod like the AKG D5 or if you preffer it with switch AKG D5S that is more directional, not Omnidirectional like the Shure SM57/58, these last ones are very easy to get feedback because they capture sound all around.
The Super/Hyper Cardiod capturs sound more direct to the mic....not around it, so, if you have the speaker system in the G2, this is a better choice. Of course, this is MY opinion for my own experience.

There are other brands that have both patterns in different models, in some they use the SuperCardiod term, in other use the HyperCardiod, at the end, those are pretty much the same. Again, I always use my AKG D5S, besides, it sounds Great.

Condenser microphones have a reputation for higher audio quality than dynamic microphones. The Genos2 can provide 45v phantom power, which condenser microphones require.

I use a Sennheiser e 865 S with my Genos2 (and my Genos before it), and have been very happy with the results.

Hi Al

I purchased my cable from Radio Shack 20 years ago and that chain store went out of business.

It does not come with the mic purchase, you can get one from Walmart.
https://www.walmart.com/ip/C-E-1-4-Inch-Mono-Extension-Cable-1-4-Male-to-1-4-Female-6-Feet/542737300?from=/search

Here are more items to look through
https://www.walmart.com/search?q=1%2F4%22+Mono+Male+to+Female++Extension+Cable

The shortest one I could find online is 6 feet long.

You can also search online for .......    1/4" Mono Male to Female  Extension Cable

Here is an Amazon search page link:

Hey group,

I am using a somewhat different setup, requiring several cables.

My Shure WBH54 is connected directly to the mixer, Channel 1.
Mic signal is then routed to AUX1 on mixer, and cable is going back to MIC input in Genos2 (Gain all the way to the minimum).
Genos MIC signal is then sent to Line Out 1, back to mixer, Channel 2

MIC setting and Vocal Harmony on Genos 2 is setup, so only Vocal Harmony is sent out so I can separately mix main vocal and vocal harmony vocal/s.

This way I am using preamps and full potential of my main mixer, for main vocal (which I prefer) with flexibility of separately mixing harmony vocals on different channels.

How ironic that I just ordered Drake's suggested mic today (Shure WH 20) and, now, stumbled across this topic.  The purpose is to try (for the first time) using a headset mic and, maybe, eliminate toting a mic stand around.  Some reviews say the mic is not hot enough, even tho' it tries to emulate an SM 58.  Oh, well, we'll soon find out.

I play guitar and tried the WH20 for a live amplified situation and it didn't work out for me. If I coughed, sneezed, cleared my throat, or spoke to another player it all went through the sound system, where a stand mounted mic I could simply move away from iit to avoid the audience hearing unintended sounds. Being corded and walking around as I do with a guitar was a bit of a downside as well (playing keys shouldn't present this problem).

The Shure WH20 has a very low sensitivity and will need a fair amount of gain. Your mouth will be fairly close to the WH20 which does help.

A few dynamic mics I have and their respective sensitivities.

Shure WH20........  0.45 mv/PA
Shure SM58..........  1.6 mv/PA
Shure SM7B..........  1.12 mv/PA
AKG D5.................   2.6 mv/PA
EV 767A................  3.1 mv/PA
Sennheiser e865.... 3.0 mv/PA

PA = Pascal which is a measurement of sound pressure at a given distance. The mv = millivolt is the output of the mic at 1 PA(pascal)

Hi Mark,

I agree with using a guitar and mic standing, placing the mic in a mic stand is the way I did it too. But when I switched to a playing solo with the keyboard putting the mic into a boom stand, it was impossible to use because of all the looking back and forth at the keyboard and hitting the buttons. I was never able to sing directly into the mic 100% of the time.

I use the registration bank to control the mic settings.
#1 is used for turning the mic completely off
#2 is used for speaking without any reverb effects and has increased volume to be heard clearly
#7 is setup with reverb for solo singing
#8 is setup with reverb and additional backup sing/singers

Amazing mic Win! I have tested KSM9 and will probably get it as handheld option.
For headset WBH54 is not lacking on any gain (condenser)
