Hi
Wouldn't it be great if yamaha implemented  hitting a fill and sounding as soon as you hit the footpedal
If you are slightly out ,you miss a fill with a sax for arguments sake and just get the drum roll until the next time it triggers.
I find that a little annoying .

interesting idea for sure, but the obvious downside is that 2 actions are required instead of 1. and you still need to hit the footpedal at the right time, no?

Oh yes, our reflexes get sluggish and all that unfortunate stuff related to getting older😀 Good idea!

I think you can set that in the <style setting>, if I understand you correctly? Choose from <SETTING>, <Section Change Timing>, to main <next bar> or <immediate>. With <immediate> it comes in as soon as you press the foot pedal (or manual) until the end of the bar.

This will be thanks a ton if this is correct 8)
Ok i found out that the drum will trigger when it is immediate but not the sound in the fill
Miss one bar then you have to wait for the next

Still the question of an instrument that only triggers every other bar on a fill and you can lose the feel of a song if missed.
So, you have to be spot on every time or you miss out on an instument fill that goes with the drum roll.
There must be something i am missing.
Is it how you make the fill?

I said about that many years ago  ;D ;D ;D Now is good to have it?! Why is good now and why was not good years ago?  :o
This is how Korg uses fills for many many years. More than that, it has two options, to start the main from the beggining (as Yamaha do right now) and to continue main from the measure when fill ends. To exemplify, if you have a main with 8 bars of 4/4 and you hit the fill on the 4th bar, it could telling to style engine that the main must continue from 5th bar or to start from the first one. Right now, no mather when you hit the fill, it allways returns to first bar.

We hope Genos 6 will have it  ;D

Regards,
Vali

It is probably me, but I am missing the 'problem'? If someone could explain it more clearly, then I know where to pay attention for, as to me I'v never had 'problems' as I knew some things can't be done on the KB and then I 'automatically' take it into account?  ::)
My best regards,
Ton

overover

I actually don't see a problem here. Fill-ins and Breaks are always 1 bar long. If you press the Fill/Break button exactly on the first beat (or minimally before/after), the complete fill will be played. If you press "very late", the Fill will only play shortened, or possibly just the drums will play.

One option to trigger Fills via footswitch is to use the Registration Sequence function. (If a Main Variation is memorized "flashing" in a registration, the Fill in question will be played first when the registration is called up.)

There are also the Assignable Functions "Fill Down", "Fill Self", "Fill Break" and "Fill Up" for footswitches.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Ton, I've already explained what is "the problem" with Yamaha fills. Comparing with Korg, it is a problem. Seeing only of Yamaha's perspective, is as it has to be, as you said. But it isn't, really.

I don't know if you can do this with a foot pedal but using your hand as I do. I set the Fill In to immediate and SMASH (hold down the fill button) and the whole thing will play. I have notes on some of my lead sheets to SMASH when changing to the next MAIN part.

If I am understanding what you are trying to do.

JohnS (Ugawoga)

Hi Drake

Why for difficult upbeat song not use padmaker fired by a footpedal . That should do it. Hope that is my blond moment over!! ::) :P
It would make life easier being a one mad (n) band

Coming from Korg, after 20+ years , where fills made sense to me from day one until that "last day" I noticed that something is "off" with Yamahas fills which I cannot explain and that from day one... Maybe bad Korg habits? 😂🤣🤷

Hi Drake You can use footpedal to fire the pad
It can be a pain having to keep smashing the buttons ;D
