Good day group,

Just a suggestion, not sure if it's available already, but I couldn't find it: Wish list for G2 updates, which possibly can be seen or forwarded to Yamaha.
@overover (Chris): it should be a clean thread, with no much discussion, just ideas for new updates/features which would be collected and copied into the first post of the thread or shared doc perhaps for easy access.

Ideascale - https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/profile/643393/my-ideas/author/stage/all/ideas/

FEATURE WISH LIST:
Genos2

  • Ability to add Expansion Pack Sounds to the Favourites
  • Assignable Function: for instantly selecting a Registration Bank
  • Import DX sy*** from 6 and 4 operators DX synths
  • Would like to have at least 1-2 more brightens down levels for Sub-Display
  • Option to "Eject" the current/selected MIDI/Song file
  • SST (Seamless Sound Transition) should be must on TOTL keyboards nowadays; especially helpful for live giggers.
  • Different resource name view in YEM, longer file names cannot be read properly/fully now
  • With Wi-Fi and Bluetooth already on board, are you able to enable MIDI over at least one of them? — Storage Mode too (file transfer)
  • Time Signature and Tempo for style Sections as per: https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/idea/161307
  • DK Editor or something like this: https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/idea/161418
  • Possibility to edit the elements (OSC) to change or create your own voices as in YEM
  • Display of "outgoing / sounding" chords. IOW, the same chords as we actually do listen to if or when there is any need to use the transpose
  • Graphs for Envelope and LFO settings
  • Create your own arpeggio's for voices and styles
  • Auto Caps Down on Genos: as per: https://yamahapk.ideascale.com/c/idea/162458
  • Simplified transitions from Genos1 (previous models). — More info: https://www.psrtutorial.com/forum/index.php/topic,68316.msg515448.html#msg515448
  • Search in Playlist modethe 'Filter' function is what we will use
  • Storage mode ON/OFF without resetting (USB/Wi-Fi transfers becomes inconvenient at times) — This can be achieved with Musicsoft Downloader: https://usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/msd_win_kbd.html
YEM
BUGS:
Genos2
YEM

  • In some cases, samples imported in YEM are not playable/usable until re-saved in AwaveStudio (no changes needed to be done, just re-save file). Importing that file/sample back into YEM plays fine.

The only updates we usually get are to put things right. The exception was Genos1 but that dose not mean the same will happen on Genos2.
Eileen

Akki

I understand, but it wouldn't hurt to have "Wish list" thread, Yamaha-ians may look at it, never know, at may implement at least some ideas.

There is a Yamaha Site where you can post your wishes for the next keyboard. Lots of members on here post over there also.
Eileen

Yes, it may not hurt - but it will not change anything either.  Yamaha has a history of only issuing changes to fix problems or bugs on these keyboards. So you would likely be wasting your time.  And that's not unfair of Yamaha because they have made it pretty clear over the years that you shouldn't expect it - what you buy will be pretty much what you get.
Mike

Ha! :)
As you said, History... let's leave it there. Perhaps the future is changing and brining something new.
List of things to fix, and list of things to add (wish list) will at least give us hope, and we never know, it may happen!

Suggest here if you have any ideas, so I can keep adding them to the first post.
Hopefully we will have a handful list which Yamaha-ians may consider working on for us.

Hi everyone.
Here we go, I wish Yamaha would give a way to import dx sy*** from 6 and 4 operators dx synths, if they don't want to give us editing for dx.

Indeed, now we are closer than ever to legendary engine on our arranger,.. give us just little more to it, please 😋

I imagine myself in the decision chair at Yamaha and I see these 'wish lists' and think if we do these things on the list how many more arrangers will we sell. And the answer in most cases would be the square root of very few!
That's what's wrong with these lists. Yamaha already know that what sells is making it easier to play, sound great, look great and keeping the price competitive. Most of the things I see on these lists matter to very small numbers of players. For example I couldn't care less about being able to edit a dx7 sound engine, I want that work done for me, I just press the button, get a nice sound and play.

I respect that, but at you said it it's preference and personal opinion.
Cant others be respected too?

Many of us do lots of editing and somewhat more powerful editors would be very helpful.

It's nothing to do with respect. I fully understand and respect that you would like this feature, and why. But you are not thinking like Yamaha. Yamaha knows that the vast majority of core buyers don't make their decisions based on things like this, and that's what drives their investment. Not only will your list not change that, it would be very bad business management if it did. That's just the reality.
Mike

Akki

We can keep going as that, back and forth, but I'll avoid.

For (1) you can already do this if you connect a pc to the G2 ( or any keyboard ) and go into USB storage mode and transfer the files from expansion manager to User drive. For sounds it will only copy a pointer to the file in expansion manager, but you can place this in favorites.

On the contrary, we are consumers!!! We do not need and must not think like Yamaha  ( if we ever know what another  ompany or people is thinking? ) . So the OP is very legimate and we (consumers) should support that  ;)

after trying to seriously utilise multipads i have realised how badly implemented they are, right now they are just a gimmick, but there is potential.

- store start/stop state of multipads with registrations, without needing some hack to stop them from playing
- ability to change individual multipad levels and effects in the multipad mixer tab
- quantization in the multipad creator of notes and phrase end event

I could add time-stretching of imported audio loops to fit the tempo, but I can't see Yamaha ever doing that, even though DAWs have done it for 20 years.

EileenL

Of all the players I listen to and that is a lot during a week I very rarely hear anyone using Multi Pads. I myself do use them and also create them for my own use to add padding to my performances. I don't find it a problem switching them on and off
whilst playing. I really don't think Yamaha would find it one of there priorities.

Hi. Nothing will change with Yamaha, unfortunately!
I made two mistakes in my life with Yamaha, buying it to quickly. That was with Tyros5 and Genos. I have Tyros2 as well, my first keyboard which accept samples. As long as I'm suficiently young enough, I cannot say to much by old arrangers of Yamaha, but the newly ones I had it or I played on them.
Why I said it was mistakes?! Because I take in care only the internal sounds and the great videos they published over the internet. When I really have it and start to dig to create styles, voices, to need some features that already other brands had them years ago, I was very mad. That could not be possible in a such expensive keyboard. Ok, sound is good, but I don't play with only factory sounds, and style, I cannot, and I think no one can. So, the need of making custom styles with different measure types, the need of fills with more than a one time measure, was a dissapointment for me. I had to find workarounds, or to accept what keyboard could do. But knowing that keyboard can do more as long as they implements... it is only software, nothing to do with hardware :)

Yamaha's history on software update is not ugly, is VERY ugly. Except is Genos 1 which somehow combined two keyboards regarding the v2 update. But in the rest of the time, nothing special with the updates. Thinking of that Section Time Signature in Style creator was added in PSR-A5000, after OS v2 of Genos was released (I think). Even today was not implemented in Genos 1, thinking of that is a simple function in style playing and creating application.

Marketing will have a big decision in what Yamaha will introduce in an already released keyboard. But in my opinion, those big expectations probably will be made in Genos 5, which I think will be the latest one of Genos series  ;D ;D
Till then I will stay and watch.. nothing to impress me on the price level, unfortunately!

Regards,
Vali

First point you mentioned, did you mean to be able to auto stop multipad when reg is changed? If so, yes I noticed that as well and it is annoying especially playing live, fast, crowded gigs.

That worked indeed.
Also, after I switched it back on, I figured that I can also copy sound (vce) from expansion to user on G2 directly without a need to go to storage mode. Thanks!
I guess this is just another workaround which also keep filling user slots for no reason.

correct, if you store 2 regis, one with mp started, and another with mp stopped, selecting the 2nd reg does not stop the mp as expected.

Hi Akki,

You cannot "copy" Expansion Voices to the User drive because "Copy" is not available in the File menu of the Expansion folder. But you can "save" the currently loaded Expansion Voice using "File > Save" to the User drive.

The advantage of the previously suggested method (USB Storage Mode) is that you can copy as many voice files (or other files) as you want at once.

Best regards,
Chris
