Why post midis. Much better to post mp3s. Midis have to played on a midi player, and unless it has exactly the same voices, will not sound as you intended. Whereas mp3s are captured sound and can be listened to directly from the file.
Midis are great for editing, moving between instruments, etc, but a pain for casual listening, and seldom an accurate representation unles played on an almost identical instrument to where the6 were made.  Sorry, but I can almost guarantee that hardly anybody will go to the trouble of listening to midis.

Hi Mike,

It's not primarily about "listening" to these MIDI files, but rather using/editing them for your own purposes. Almost every solo entertainer and many small bands (e.g. two, three or four musicians) now not only work with styles, but also use MIDI files in live performances. The advantage is that with MIDI files you can edit everything to your liking (every single note, voices, effects, etc.), you can change all volumes/velocities, record additional tracks yourself and much more, and thus adapt the song completely to your own keyboard. Of course, STYLES also have their place, but with MIDI files you can do a lot that is very difficult to achieve with styles.

Many musicians have now switched to recording their edited MIDI files as MP3 or Wave files and using them in live performances. But then you no longer have the option of accessing individual tracks live via the keyboard Mixer. Well, everyone has to decide for themselves what the best approach is for them.

There's a place for both but I enjoy midis. I use MidiPlayer as a jukebox to listen to them while I'm doing something else. They sound good through my keyboard with my Yamaha sounds, though many might use sound fonts to get a good sound.
And, as you say, they are useful. Key can be changed, parts can be edited/muted/changed, speed can be controlled and they can be used for learning. I also value them as a source of sheet music, often being able to create lead sheets or scores from them. And, though I've not done it, they can be useful for making song styles.
Mp3s aren't at that level of useful. Maybe someday, but not yet. Though probably mp3s are better than midi for sharing a performance.
