I was asking for the Voice list for the DGX-670 and got this message through chat

No, we didn't make that software, so we don't know about it. I only see it on the internet. Yamaha does not support this software or have any information on it.

Anything we have is on that download page. Whoever made that software only supports what's listed. I would contact that software page to see if they have more info. I am sorry, that's not something we can assist with other than give you what we have on the download page.

Is not the software made by Yamaha ??

Yamaha has copyright that program. I think you sent the mail to the wrong address.

Received this message from Yamaha.... Looks like the DGX-670 is not supported

Hello Ron,

Thank you for your email.

Your DGX-670 doesn't allow for this to be performed. This is only for the larger keyboards as you mentioned.

The architecture  of your keyboard doesn't support that function.

Best regards,

Yamaha Support

Thank you for your enquiry.
For your reference, your case number is 00314219.

Q: I have the DGX-670 and would really like to use the "Midi to Style" Software....
Is there a Voice list for the DGX-670 ?
Is this something that I can create? Any help anywhere on how to create this list ?

A: The 'MIDI file to Style' convertor software is only currently compatible with the brand new Genos2 at this moment in time. This may however change in the future.

I hope this helps and thank you for contacting Yamaha Music Europe GmbH (UK).

Kind Regards

That answer you received is clearly wrong --- because "at this time"  (right now, LOL) there are 6 keyboards that are supported:

Genos,  Genos2,  PSR-A5000,  PSR-SX 600 / 700 / 900   which should be obvious to someone in Yamaha support!
I wonder why they would reply like that?

Matter of fact, initially, the software was only listed under the Genos2 downloads.
I just noticed yesterday that the software is also now listed under the SX-900 software, along with a new version of MEGAenhancer.

Yes , I am a little disappointed in the response received from Yamaha Canada, Yamaha USA and Yamaha Europe.  I am not a Software Developer but I can't help thinking that all I would need is a voice list for the DGX-670.

Still hoping to find someone who can help me to create the voice list needed !  I can do the "work" if someone can show me what "work" I need to do

Thanks

No your entering it wrong.

At the top select edit voice file, import voice list, select the folder.

Des O

Just tried it on mine, you are correct.

I cannot upload tx files
so I would compare the genos voice definition file to the dgx670 file. Download the voice list from Yamaha for the numbers.

It may take some work though manually.

Folks, the voice lists on Jørgen's site are intended for Cakewalk Sonar. They are in a completely different format.

They ain't gonna work with the new style creation program.  :)

This is just utterly wrong. It isn't the first time that Yamaha customer service is flummoxed by a new product.

Here's a broad outline of how to create a voice list for the DGX-670 or any other SFF GE (SFF2) compatible arranger.

1. Download and install the style creation program.
2. Download the ZIP file with the existing voice lists and UNZIP it.
3. Open the Data List PDF for the target keyboard, e.g., DGX-670. Go to the list of voices.
4. Determine which of the existing voice list files are similar or a superset of the target keyboard. For the DGX-670, I would start with the PSR-SX900 voice list. It's easier to delete voice entries than to type in new ones.
5. Go step by step and compare the list in the text editor against the Data List PDF. Yes, this is manual and tedious.
6. Delete any entries in the voice list that are not supported on the target keyboard.
7. If the DGX-670 has something unique (i.e., VRM piano voices), create a new entry in the appropriate subcategory in the voice list.
8. Save the new voice list file under a different name. Save often just in case you need to back up after making a mistake.

Please note that some DGX-670 voices may have entries in the Legacy category in the SX900 voice list file. Copy and paste, if necessary.

Hint: Put the voice entries in the same order as they appear in the Data List PDF for the target machine. This will make it easier to proofread the new voice list against the Data List PDF.

Yes, this is a lot of monkey-work. Welcome to computer science! I did this kind of work for decades. Glad I'm retired.  :)

Good luck. Feel free to ask questions here.

Enjoy the day -- pj

I don't mean this sarcastically...

Natural intelligence is better than artificial intelligence. When you look at a voice list in the text editor and you see a pattern, make everything follow that pattern. Common sense is your guide.

Please take my remark as encouragement and a statement for our superiority over machines.  :D
