Hi all

A couple of questions relating to the new G2

1 - Expansion Packs.

Obviously my existing 3rd party packs will not work on the G2, but will we need to download the Yamaha ones again for them to work in the new G2.

2 - Free packs after Registration

When you Register your Kb you can download 2 Expansion packs (DX7) & (Genos  Complete Collection)
The complete pack appears to be all the stuff left out from the G1. I'm interested in the size of this pack and content.  The reason for wanting this info is to know what has been left out and how much room it will take from the Ecpansion memory simply to get missing content back.  I have already maxed out on my G1.

3 - Styles - Song names

It is always difficult to know what Songs Yamaha has based their styles on, because of copyright issues. Therefore does anyone have any intentions of producing a list of song name, especially what the into & endings are based on?
This info would be very useful to people like me who have not really kept up to date with the more modern stuff that Yamaha is now catering for.

Many thanks
Bill

Question 2
If you load the pack into the expansion manager you can view it's content.

Question 3
What helps is to load the Bonus Playlist with more than 1000 songs. I think this covers a lot of the songs related to the styles
Yamaha CK61, Yamaha MODX7, Korg Pa5X, Yamaha YH-WL500, Roland Fantom 07, Roland Boutique D-05/TR-08, Logic Pro

Many thanks DaPalerider.

I have not received mine as yet, not sure when it will arrive.

Re:Q2, I was hoping for an answer before it arrived because if the missing content is a large file it will take up lots of my expansion memory. If it is very big I may consider cancelling my order. Since you cannot obtain the file until you register the KB, it a bit of a headache.

The answer to Q3 is possibly a good solution if it considers all the styles with suggestions for each of the intro's etc. It will however be a good start.

Regards
Bill
Once again many thanks.

Q1 "Obviously my existing 3rd party packs will not work on the G2"

If your expansion pack is only sound expansion pack (not styles) as far as I understand will be 100% compatible with the new Genos.

If the old pack contain styles designed exclusive for Genos 1 (including sounds and/or effects available only on Genos 1) as far as I understand you will be able to load the "old" styles (G1 styles) to your new Genos but maybe there will be missing sound/effects.
The reality... There are only a handful of expansion packs designed ONLY for G1 using sounds including ONLY on G1.
Almost all sound and style designers (3rd party and Yamaha) try to achieve wide compatibility with all YEM compatible arrangers (including Genos 1, Tyros 5, SX 9/7/600, PSRs 970/5, 770/5, 670, A 3/5000 etc.) so they use for the styles they create sound including an all the above arrangers in order to create only one version of the style compatible with all the YEM compatible arrangers.
So, as far as I understated, all your "old G1 expansion packs" (3rd party and Yamaha) will be more than 90% compatible with your new Genos.

You will have, probably, to re-voice a few style parts for missing sounds and you will have to rework the registrations (although soon you will be able to convert the G1 registrations to G2 registrations with 3rd party software - today is possible to convert registration from older arrangers to G1 registrations, I think that G1 to G2 registration conversion will be available soon)

Also multi pads will be more than 90% (based on the above thoughts....)

Many thanks Danand for your comments. The problem with my 3rd party packs are that they are specific to my G1, not any G1.  The fact that they tied them into my specific KB ID is obviously understandable though. Maybe I could asked them for a discount if I buy them again.  I do have copies of the styles and Mpads but think it would be a long job to complete. Many of the pads are human voice phrases.

Many thanks

Hopefully the expansion pack developers will offer reasonable 'upgrade' prices to those who previously bought them and installed them on another keyboard. That seems only fair.

Most third party packs that are not encrypted and that includes PPF files should work OK.

Yes in this case, you can't just import them to the new G.
You have to ask, as you mention, help from the producers of the 3rd party packs.

Sounds like audio files to me... so I bet that are compatible (in case you can load the same audio files as an expansion pack... - If the audio files in question are part of an encrypted expansion packs, then you can't handle it by your self you will need support from the creators.)
