Hi all,

I want to give a short table of good and not so good things. To be completed....

Pros:

* FM engine (for me the best new feature)
* USB audio interface (finally!!)
* HDMI out (of course in 2023)
* rotary encoders and sliders with LEDs
* Bluetooth audio (of course in 2023)

Ok, nice to have:

* New piano samples
* New reverb
* New Drum mode with ambient sound

Cons:

* Still only 3GB expansion memory
* User memory reduced from 58GB to 15GB (ok, we have USB sticks)
* Still no tiltable display
* Still no capacitive touch display (really??)
* FM sounds not editable. No FM-X. Just presets. But DX7 library is fine.
* No progress in Hammond organ sound quality (disappointed!!!!)
* No new rotary speaker simulation (like in YC61)
* Number of insert effects not improved, still 1 insert per voice, very bad for Leslie+Overdrive!!
* No VCM for organ simulation or piano resonance emulation
* Still no half pedal support
* No bluetooth midi

My biggest disappointment is the lack of new Hammond organ simulation.
That was the weakest point of the G1 in my opinion.
So I have to keep my YC61.
Or use IK Hammond B-3X on iPad plugged into Genos 1 (but without audio over USB).

According to "Woody Piano Shack" they have revoiced the brass, and strings have been done by the Sofia Orchestra. Would be nice to hear a demo of those new strings.

The memory is the biggest blunder.  >:(

the 15 gb can be extended to 58 gb with a firmware update later on I believe.

And don't forget the lack of seamless sound switcing. You'll be reminded of this when you switch registrations and get an earful of extraneous sound.

A little question for those already have a Genos 2:
Is the USER memory still proformatted with the predefined folders : SONG, STYLES, REGIST, VOICE, ... ?

* USB audio interface (finally!!)

But only STEREO.

Sad missed opportunity. Had it had multichannel audio over USB it would have been actually useful for DAW use - ie - allowing each instrument track to be piped in digitally into a DAW for final eq and mix down or further processing. One could have actually used some of the good instruments in G2 in real compositions and productions!

Even the much cheaper sub £1k DGX670 has multiple digital outs over USB -

They REDUCED the user memory??? In 2023?  Unbelievable!

I think I've found the answer on why I'm not really excited about Genos2.. because Genos2 is ahead of it's time... or am I not old enough yet? Yamaha should definitely make more clear what generation Genos is targeting  ;D ::)

From the way it is marketed, you could get the idea that Genos is for older people, but I don't think so. That's like saying the piano is for older people because it's been played for hundreds of years. To me, and I don't mean this in a judgmental way, I think Genos is for people who love the sounds and want to use them to make their own music, which you can. You can use as much of the technology as you want -- for example, I use the drums instead of the full accompaniment many times so that I can play freely in the left hand, or I can use the Left plus the accompaniment when that works for what I'm playing -- or add a guitar from the multi-pads. And I love the sound. Music is about expressing the soul, isn't it? And I think souls are timeless. Some of the younger generation enjoy what I enjoy and even enjoy my music. Some are looking more for dance rhythms and claps and other sounds -- such as singing that is put through those processes that distort the voice. That music doesn't move me. It is true that, having been raised listening to classical music, you might think that's the reason. But that's not true, since I love many kinds of music, black music, Latin music, Middle Eastern music. Something speaks to me, or it doesn't. The improvement in the Genos2 piano is VERY important to me. It's not the world's greatest piano, but at least it sounds like a piano and has a little heft. The lack of a decent piano in the last Genos was one of the deal breakers for me. I'm sure you will follow your own heart and ears and find the keyboard that best works for you. I would go insane with 61 keys. Even 76 is a bit of a downer for me. I'm always looking for the other 12. haha. Best to you.

Very well put GrannyRocks and if you think about it without classical music to inspire people there would be no music today. In fact most music today isn't really what you would call music. It is just a repetitive noise. I personally love music from the shows.

That's funny, Eileen. Now that's something my mother would say about all rock and roll and probably even jazz. What I can't stand, someone else might love. For example, all this calming piano music drives me a little bit bonkers. Where's the grit of which life is full? Anyway, after having been raised on classical music, I was stunned to hear Ray Charles. I thought he was great. So many aspects of ourselves. Sometimes we need one thing, and sometimes we need something else. The important thing is to tune into what you love without regard to what others might think. Right?

Just got my G2 yesterday.

So far I like everything except for the subdisplay, which is way too bright even on its dimmest setting.

Genos2 has 2 big cons: 1. it still uses YEM. 2. it still has the awful 8 pin connection to the sub.
