This video just showed a few new voices and styles, new controllers, new screen, and an HDMI port.

Is that all there is?

No mention of SSS or new Leslie emulation as in the YC series. Surely there's more.  It's been 6 years after all. I wonder if they're still using USB 2.0?

torben

This is a joke! Yamaha cannot be serious! Most of all shown here could be done by a serious upgrade.

I am really disappointed if this is what it is all about. Are we getting fooled??

Torben

Tyros 5 was my choice - now it is only Genos1 !

rattley

Hello!

I did expect to see more, but I did like what I saw. In the beginning many felt that Tyros 5 to Genos 1 wasn't worth the physical upgrade. Maybe my expectations are less but like it or not.....This is it!!  I plan on embracing my new Genos 2 when it arrives. I am still way over the top excited over it. I'm not gonna rain on my parade. Let the trumpets (FM synthesis?  LOL) roar!!!!!  -charley

Hello Torben,

As it happens, that is exactly what went through my mind as well... so you are not alone on that particular aspect! However, there is no doubt that there is a lot more to G2 than we have seen and heard so far. And I daresay that our scepticism will soften a little when a certain Mr. Peter Baartmans starts putting it through its paces! ;)

They only had so much time to demonstrate Genos2 but there is a lot more to it.
I was very impressed at the sound quality.

I agree with Eileen - there's a lot more to than was demoed on You Tube. The sound quality was superb, to say the very least, and that's why we buy new keyboards and don't stay with the old ones - IT'S THE SOUND!

Did anyone notice the Drum Ambiance system that is available on the G2? That is an incredible feature, particularly for live performers performing in noisy, nite club venues.

There seems to be a lot of naysayers about the G2, but I, for one, would purchase one in a heartbeat if I were able overcome my physical impairment issues. I heard song specific styles that were not available on prior models, and they were outstanding. Additionally, the intros, fills and endings have been reworked with many of the older, remade styles and those new voices really sound fantastic.

I would really like to know the price of the G2, though. No one seems to want to, or able to post that information at this time.

Good luck,

Hi: some prices

In (USA) $ 5300 > $ 5700
In Europe (NL) € 4895  ;)

At first glance it's a great keyboard. Mostly meets expectations with a few small 'bonuses'. Unfortunately no 61 keys, but you can live with that.  ;)
My best regards,
Ton

Same kind of screen?
Not like a smartphone or tablet?

EileenL

The screen has been angled more and is now Anti Glare also can now adjust brightness. In the UK is selling for around £5000 with a PX of Genos 1 for £2000.
Also contains special EQ setting for certain Yamaha speakers as well as the normal ones.
Now has Ambient Drum kits as well as Revo Drums. Lots of lovely new styles and voices.

Thanks for your reply.
So, the same screen technology as the 1?

Hello,

Has anyone else noticed how much the Genos 2 moves due to the stand it is mounted too?  That movement would drive me crazy. I like my keyboards on firm ground. Many one gets used to it but I don't think so.  It's not just one demo I have seen this on.  I would think that extra movement might interfere with your velocity and aftertouch while playing??  Just another observation.  -charley

I agree with you too Eileen. Also feel style creator May now let you edit all the channels: my guess. And yes a lot more still to be revealed.

The stand it is being played on is not the recommended Genos 2 stand (L7b), which is solid and does not move around like the one shown.

Never understood why they use such crap wobbly stands in important demos. At home such stands would drive me nuts.

Even if they can't use the L7B due to wanting to stand and play there are better options than these rubbishy V stands.

I guess the only thing they got going is they look good when no one is playing the instrument.

I agree with Torben, this is a frickin joke Yamaha. I have been looking forward to the next Genos for a long time, and saving my money in anticipation. When I started watching the Genos2 demo, I was quickly dissappointed. I couldnt even bring myself to watch the entire demo. Seriously, the highlight is some new lighting around buttons??? Im taking my saved money and putting it into a new home studio instead.

EileenL

Each to there own but from what I see the Genos 2 is selling faster than Genos 1 did
And people that have it already are well pleased. Should have mine very soon.

I am waiting for delivery, too.
One statistic my dealer made me aware of was that arrangers, including the G2, sell 30 times more in the EU than in the US. I can't see a logical explanation for that discrepancy; I wonder why?!

I asked this question at several music stores in the Tucson AZ area and was told that there just isn't a market for advanced keyboards. Sadly, country and western and rock and guiguiguitars rule.

Quite agree. In the USA, guitars outsell all keyboard categories several times over. I don't have the market data at hand, but the NAMM sales statistics back up this observation.
