I'm having trouble getting my SX900 and Yamaha computer software (MusicSoft Downloader & Expansion Manager) to work together. I installed the Yamaha USB-MIDI driver following the instructions.  Restarted both the computer and keyboard. However, both software say they cannot communicate with the keyboard. My MIDI software (MidiEditor) recognizes the keyboard and will play back MIDI files through the SX900. I assume that means the driver is installed. What else can I do?

Hi MCammuso,

Please make sure you have installed the latest firmware (V1.11) on the SX900 and that you are using YEM V2.9.0 and MusicSoft Downloader V5.7.4.

Also make sure that one of the preset MIDI templates "All Parts" or "KBD & STYLE" is set on the SX900.

After starting the Expansion Manager (YEM), click on the gear icon ( ) at the top right (in the "My Packs" line) to open the "Device Setting" window. Select "Digital Workstation" for MIDI INPUT and "Digital Workstartion 1" for MIDI OUTPUT. These MIDI devices are available if the USB-MIDI driver is properly installed on the PC.

Note that you can NOT use this MIDI connection to transfer/install Expansion packs, but only, for example, to play voices via the SX900 keyboard (if a voice from a non-protected pack is open in the YEM Voice Editor). To install packs, please use the "USB stick method" (save the pack install file on the USB stick and then use the "Pack Installation" function on the SX900). Alternatively, you can use the "WiFi method" to install packs. For the SX900, the optional Yamaha USB WiFi adapter "UD-WL01" is required.

If the "MusicSoft Downloader" does not automatically detect the USB-MIDI driver, please click on the "Check Connection" button. After a short wait, a dialog box should appear in which you click on "Check Connection" again. In the next window ("Check Connection 1/2") click on "Next >", and in the next window you should set "Digital Workstation" for Input and "Digital Workstation 1" for Output. Then click on "Check" and finally "Exit".

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
