Hi there,
You guys have been great so far on helping me with upgrading my PSRS 650 to a SX600.
I managed to try one out today and was very impressed.
The only thing troubling me was the registration memory bank. On the 650 you have 8x8 registration banks. I'm guessing it's the same but couldn't get clarity on it ( crucial for my needs!).
I loaded some sounds into the 8 registration buttons but couldn't seem to work out how to load another 8 into bank 2.
Any ideas or am I being thick?
Many thanks

Did you create a New Bank of blank registrations?

Hi Gary,
The first 8 were a mixture of sounds and styles however whereas before on the 650 I'd press the + next to bank to change to bank 2 it didn't want to know. Whatever I tried to save just overided the previous 8 sounds/styles if that makes sense!
Thanks

Hi Jan,

On the SX600 you can have an unlimited number of Registration Banks. A "Registration Bank" is the contents of the 8 Registration Memory buttons. To save the current Registration Bank as a file (in the internal user drive or (better) on a USB stick), call up the Registration Bank File Selection display (press the "Regist Bank -/+" buttons at the same time and press "Save ".

Please also see the chapter "Registration Memory/Playlist" in the SX600 Owner's Manual from page 84 and the chapter "Registration Memory" in the SX600 Reference Manual from page 76. You can download all SX600 manuals here in PDF format:
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/psr-sx600/downloads.html

To save other settings as a new bank, you first memorize the new settings on the individual Reg buttons. Registrations that are not required can be deleted in the "Registration Edit" display (so that the relevant Reg buttons are no longer lit) as described in the chapter in the Reference Manual. Then you save the bank as a file as described above, only this time you enter a new/changed file name. This means that the previously loaded bank file remains unchanged.

You can also create one or more so-called "Setup Registrations" that hold your preferred settings, and start from one of these registrations when creating a new bank. Just make sure, as mentioned above, to enter a new name when saving the bank so that your bank with the setup registrations is not overwritten.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Many thanks Chris for the detailed reply.
I play in rest homes and have medleys of songs usually using 4 registration memory's for each medley.
That's great that there's unlimited banks but are they easy and quick to call up when needed (used to pressing bank and the number!)?
Also one other question as you seem really knowledgeable, if I put my USB stick in from my Psr S650 would it work? The thought of having to load up all new registrations for 100+ songs fills me with dread. Was hoping I could just 'tweak' them to save some time as I know some of the styles are the same?
I think I'll know the answer but it's worth an ask !
Many thanks

Thanks for your feedback, Jan!

Normally, you save each Registration Bank with the name of the song you are playing with that bank. If you call up the Registration Bank Selection display (press both "Regist Bank -/+ buttons at the same time, as mentioned above), you will always find the bank files automatically sorted alphabetically and can quickly select another bank. You can also use a number at the beginning of the bank file name, but then the banks are no longer sorted alphabetically.

By pressing the "Regist Bank +" button you can directly load the next bank in the current folder (in alphabetical order).

For example, for a medley, you could create a folder with the name of the medley and store the reg banks for each song of the medley in that folder. In such cases I use the following numbering of the bank files:

010 First Song of the Medley.rgt
020 Second Song.rgt
030 Third Song.rgt
040 Fourth Song.rgt
...

(The file extension ".rgt" is not displayed on the keyboard, only on the computer.)

The numbering of the bank files shown above has the advantage that you can insert additions banks at any time without having to change all the numbers again (e.g. use #025 to insert another bank between 020 and 030).

Alternatively you can use the PLAYLIST function. Each Playlist entry (called "Record") calls up any Registration from (pre-created) Registration Banks.

Unfortunately, PSR-S650 registrations are not compatible with the SX600, they have a completely different format and, as far as I know, there is no conversion option. In principle, however, it is always better to create registrations from scratch on a new keyboard in order to use the new features optimally.

Best regards,
Chris
