Now about the GEM keyboards. I've never owned one, this is the first time i hear about this, i used to own many beginners level psr keyboards, and a tyros2, and a korg pa500 which i enjoyed alot (the flutes are amazing at Korg) but in the end i wanted to return to yamaha because i know the menus well, its interfaces are more friendly than Korgs imo.

Thank you as well icatalin42 for your very nice post. There are a lot of great Italian artists and songs we can have the opportunity to learn and play, very nice chords in those songs as well.

I actually also own a Pa500 but it's not with me at the moment, it's a very nice keyboard for what it offers and looks and sounds great, as you say, the instruments like flutes sound very realistic especially for it's time as was the Pa2x/Pa800 being in the same range.

I only mentioned GEM because you spoke specifically about Italian artists and songs. GEM was an Italian keyboard manufacture that unfortunately went bust in 2011 (although the GEM brand does exist again but it's not the same company, it was purchased by a company in Finland), but when GEM was operating in it's original form it made many keyboards and a huge catalogue of karaoke songs of all genres including a huge collection of Italian songs from all era's which sounded (and still sound) incredible and very realistic, and it's all using the keyboards midi instruments. The programmers at GEM were very clever indeed how did managed this, they used the DSP effects of the keyboard to really transform it. I thankfully have the entire catalogue before it went bust as now it would be quite difficult or even impossible to get your hands on those disks. So yes, I only mentioned it as I thought you'd be familiar with GEM after talking about Italian artists.

Impressive indeed those GEM (Galanti Electro Musical)keyboards, i found this page about the brand: https://combo-organ.com/Gem/index.htm

Thanks for posting that, although I don't recognise a lot of those instruments!!!  :o But I should do really, they look great for the time.

Here's a link to the GEM products I was talking about.

Out of that lot, I own the GEM WK8 which is in my spear room and the last flagship they did, the GEM Genesys which I also own but is being used by someone else.

It means, by connecting SX600 to PC via USB, you can record (what you're playing) directly on PC as stereo audio file. That can't be done with SX700/900 -to do the same, external audio interface is needed.

Hi Bogdon,

What is the difference in using the SX-600 USB to PC compared to the SX-700 Audio out to PC?
Do you not need a recording program like Audacity for both?

Well if you record an sx700/sx900 on a computer, you'd need an audio interface and a pair of 1/4" cables; the sx600 has a 2 channel audio interface already built in, so you can just plug in USB directly to the PC, losslessly.

SX700 can't be connected to PC by using audio (Line) out on SX700 -because there's no dedicated audio input on PC.

As Mark said, difference between SX600 and SX700 is USB connection capability. If SX700 is connected to PC, then that connection can only be used as midi connection or data (file) transfer connection.
USB on SX600 has additional capability: it can also send digital audio from keyboard (because it has so called audio interface built in). The only way to achieve the same on SX700 is to buy external audio interface. That interface is on one side connected to keyboard Line output and on the other side to USB connector on PC. In this case, SX600 and SX700 will have exactly the same capability.
In both cases, to actually record the music coming from keyboard, some audio recording/editing software is needed on PC (Audacity, Goldwave, etc.).

My personal opinion... built-in audio interface is nice to have, but not really that important. The thing is, if we record our music only now and then, then we can do that easy on USB stick. And for more serious work, external audio interface is needed anyway. Let me explain why:
Built in audio interface (on SX600) is two channel (stereo) only. That means, if you connect microphone to keyboard, then voice will be automatically mixed in these two channels. And if it happens that singer sings too loud (or too quiet), it's impossible to adjust that later. Not to mention the problem in case you have two singers (microphones) or singer plus guitarist. Or if you wish to use condenser microphone. What I'm saying is, we need as many channels as many audio sources we have, so we can later edit each audio source separately on PC.
And that's something we must keep in mind when buying audio interface: it must have enough inputs -or we buy twice.

For me,this audio interface built in the sx600 came in handy cause for my videos (above) i used a usb type b to usb type c cable to export real time audio from  sx600 to my samsung phone, following Bogdan and others advice. Type B (usb to host on sx600) and type c on phone. I dont need multiple channells since i dont use a mic. This is amazing, the phone records video using embedded photos/video app and using external audio input through usb aswell.

Hi! I wonder why you dont(?) use the app Rec'n'Share by Yamaha for recording your video and play simultaneously via USB?

Cheers, Fabio (with a SX600 which I also like A LOT!).  :)

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial Forum, Fabio! Thanks for pointing out the "Rec'n'Share" app.

Here is an additional link to the recommended apps for the SX600:

Hey Chris ( overover ) :

Herewith I would like to thank you for all the ( recent ) DGX-670 and SX600 support and help !
Your knowledge is very welcome !

Three weeks ago I bought me a brand new complete DGX-670 set, after I sold my Tyros4 XXL.
Our UK Friend, Graham, helps me a lot to discover most usual ( and unusual ) applications.  ;)

Today I ordered a brand new additional SX600 ( I am missing the multipads in the DGX-670 but love the great piano voices + 88 note of the DGX-670  ). In fact the SX600 has the same engine and screen ( DGX-670 ). Makes life a lot easier for me.  :)

In 2 weeks I will have my SX600. Delivery time : approx. 15 days.

A nice set ( IMHO ) : more than enough to have fun for an old man like me though.

BTW ... I wonder if there are XGW Voice lists available for the DGX-670 and SX600 ?
It would be a very nice surprise. ;D

Have a good day !

Best wishes, JH
