Hi, I found my wife's old Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, it has the cord used with the wall charger, it connects to the tablet and has a USB connection at the other side.
Can this be used to connect to the Genos to read the lyrics of a midi file played on the genos?

Thank you

EileenL

No need to connect to Genos Just load the lyric page into Pad and then read from there. You can also just load Text files onto your genos and read from keyboard screen.

Hi dinapoli,

No, this cable CANNOT be used to connect the Genos to a tablet. This is because the Genos' USB-to-DEVICE terminals CANNOT be used for a USB-MIDI connection. To establish a USB-MIDI connection, you must use the Genos' USB-to-HOST terminal, i.e. you need a USB type "AB" cable. The USB B connector (the "square" one) of that cable is connected to the Genos and the USB A connector (the "normal, flat" one) is connected to the tablet via an additional, so-called "OTG" (= On The Go) adapter cable. Note: Not all Android tablets/smartphones support such OTG adapters.

By the way, with the Android app "MobileSheets Pro" you can display your lyrics on the tablet and also switch the registrations of the Genos at the same time if there is a USB-MIDI connection to the Genos. (Also works via a Bluetooth-MIDI connection, but only with an optional BluetoothLE-MIDI adapter connected to the Genos, e.g. "CME WIDI Master".)

Best regards,
Chris

Thank to all for answering.

I am new with these tablets.  I simply wanted to use the tablet to display the lyrics of a karaoke midi file played by the Geno, because the display on the Genos doesn't tilt like the Tyros, it makes more difficult and obvious to read it in a live performance, you will be looking down instead of looking at the audience.
Up to now I've used a small television using a video adaptor, it works well but I didn't want to carry a TV cables etc to a job and it's to big to place it on the music stand.

I tried to connect the tablet directly to the same USB port of the Genos.  Nothing happens.

I also have a flip laptop, I use it to write the lyrics and chords of all the songs I do. I copy  sheets music in it when I need to read the music.  I don't have a special program for this I use words.  The flip laptop has a touch screen and works the same as a word document.  Maybe there is a better way of doing this but I don't know it.

I contacted Yamaha about the tablet. below is the answer:

Luigi,

Thank you for contacting Yamaha Customer Support. It is only possible to connect the Genos to an external monitor with compatible adapters such as these:

https://usa.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/2/1274342/USB_Display_Adapter_Compatible_List.pdf

I don't believe there is any way for the Galaxy Tab to function as a display, as it has no dedicated video input. You may want to reach out to Samsung to see if there is any to use it as a simple video monitor! I hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you Chris, but I don't understand the instructions.

I have several cables like the one you show, but the Galaxy tablet has flat large input with many pins maybe 20? it doesn't have a connection like the phone.

Maybe someone can explain to me.  Is the tablet considered a computer?  If it is then I think it should be connected to the genos the same way I would connect a computer, I would just need the correct adaptors.

Thank you

Wim

Hi Chris.
I want to command at the last sentences.

quote "(Also works via a Bluetooth-MIDI connection, but only with an optional BluetoothLE-MIDI adapter connected to the Genos, e.g. "CME WIDI Master".) Endquote

Is this working for you??

I can not make the connection by bluetooth via CME Widi Master and my Samsung tab 6.
I contacted the guys from CME and also Mike from Zubersoft.
Mike said bluetooth and midi via Android devices is very poor. And advice my to use the Google set up in his midi protocol. But still not working for me. So what works perfect is via a cable connection. And that's what in the manual of MSPro is adviced.

Hi dinapoli,

I obviously overlooked your question at the time. Please report back if the problem is still ongoing.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Wim,

I currently use two WIDI Master and one WIDI Jack Bluetooth LE MIDI adapters, also in connection with an "Honor 10 Lite" phone with Android 10.

Please note that with newer Android versions not only Bluetooth must be switched on, but also "Location" must be activated. Also note any notifications (swipe down from the top of the screen). Sometimes you have to (once) agree to certain permissions and/or explicitly agree to Bluetooth pairing. If a Pin is requested, try "0 0 0 0" or "1 2 3 4".

I also recommend installing the "WIDI" app on the phone/tablet to keep all WIDI adapters used up to date with the latest firmware.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
thanks for the quick reply. I check it out. And try what you write. I only have the WME midi adapter in my Genos. Also have the app installed. Necessary for updates too.
