Dead SX900?

A family friend that had a SX900 told me recently that his SX900 apparently can't produce any sounds. I told him to contact Yamaha support but he sold it off as parts/not working to someone else. His SX900 was bought brand new from Kraft Music in USA, but this was a while back so the warranty is probably beyond expired.

Anyone else seen this?

It does not have to be a malfunction at all, but can be adjusted in the settings. If you turn off LOCAL CONTROL, the keyboard has no sound at all.  ;)

Hi mixermixer,

This can have different causes. The first thing I would check is that the headphone output is working and that a headphone adapter (6.3 to 3.5 mm) is not accidentally plugged into the headphone jack (which normally disables the internal speakers).

Also make sure that the "Speaker" parameter under "Menu > Utility > Speaker/Connectivity" is NOT set to "Off", but either to "Headphone Switch" (= default setting) or to "On" (= speakers are always on, even if a headphone plug is connected).

Check (in conjunction with external, active speakers) whether you have an output signal at the Main Output and the Sub/Aux Output jacks. Also make sure that under "Menu > Line Out" all parts are routed to "Main" (i.e. not to "Sub 1/2").

To make sure that "Local Control" is not set to Off (as already mentioned by ckobu), set the preset MIDI template "All Parts" in "Menu > MIDI".

By the way, if you have any pedals/foot switches connected, try unplugging them BEFORE turning on the keyboard.

Hope this helps!

Best regards,
Chris
