A trip to the country and sad ending because of no car!

Hello friends :) I told you that I was about to join up with an accordion band here in Trondheim.  Have been looking forward to this, but now I am sitting here, playing a sad, little tune on my new, white accordion. I have met the band. The band welcomed me with open arms. I had an unforgettable evening with them. They were actually way abowe my musical level, but they were willing to share their knowledge and skills and teach me what I needed to learn to be a mamber of their band. BUT: Having no car, I had to take a taxi to their place of rehearsal. The car drove, and drove, and drove. Out of the town, snow, fields and barns, more barns, more snow, and finally we were there! They rehearse every week, and I can't take taxi every time, so I asked if any of the members lived in my area. None! So what about the bus? It turns out that I have to take three busses to get myself and my accordion there, and in addition, I have to walk several kilometers. In deep snow. With a haevy accordion om my back, in the dark. ... So no playing in a band. Just me, sitting by my Genos, with my accordion on my lap, composing a sad song and feeling a little bit sorry for myself. This is not the first time something like this happens. The world is divided, there are those with cars, that can get around, and there are us carless people that always miss out on things because we are not so mobile. I will get over it, but now I am just sad. I have also been asked to perform during an accordion festival, but have to say no. It is far, far into the country. Have to get there by train first, and who knows what other means I will have to use to get there? A horse, mayby? Pardon my little rant.

Toril,
I am confident that something will open up that is more convenient and easy for you.
I haven't posted for a while, but at 74, it hurts to lose something or give up an opportunity.
I know you have helped here over the years. I always read and enjoy your posts, except  this one.
I also hurt for you as these types of things have been in my life over the years.
Blessings, Tom

Toril, I don't know if this saying helps ;-):
"If circumstances prevent you from realizing your ideals, then make reality your ideal"

Thanks for sharing your emotions, best to you ;-)
My best regards,

Hi Toril,
Any chance that with such an apparently convoluted journey a ferry boat might be more "direct" / less hassle? eg. presumably Hurtigruten still call at Trondheim to pick you up, but it all depends how close they stop off to your rehearsal destination and timings for return journey etc. There might be smaller companies with more options.
Just a thought.

The three essential requirements for a gigging musician -
You must have an instrument
You have be able to play it quite well
You must have transport
:D :D :D

Thanks Tom, Ton, John and Mike! Transportation is my main problem. But I am still playing from time to time here in Trondheim.

Toril....just a suggestion....it may be "silly" but:  You live in Trondheim (my father in laws home town) there must be a few accordion musicians in town you can connect with.....perhaps you can form your own group.....??  I am an old Polka Band accordion player and would love to team up with you, but we would need more than a car to connect....oh well.  Keep those delightful tunes from your keyboard coming.....good luck!  Regards, Flip
