New Genos Color Opinions

Is black the standard color forever, with Yamaha keyboards? Especially for a new Genos.  My preference would be a Metallic color close to the Tyros 5 with some black trim maybe.  I can't imagine this being an added expense for Yamaha. This is all plastic. I like a few chrome knobs, but today, it's so cheap. I'm sure the knob in time would turn black. Just give the keyboard a little more life, and warmth when you sit and play.  I no longer do gigs, and understand those who do.  I had the Technics KN-7000 which was nice to carry around, like closing a laptop. I didn't like the control being upright as much. But besides that it was pretty nice. Just inquiring on opinions....

Will another color help you play better?

The only problem I have with the Black Genos is it shows the dust more. Other than that I think it looks better than the silver Tyros.

A new TOTL instrument:
Color - whatever
Housing material - metal
Text, marks  on buttons - not printed on the outer surface
Screen - tiltable or not,
but the whole instrument could be made to be much thinner.

P.S. I've had Genos for a little over a year.
We could have met much, much earlier :-)

I don't think Yamaha will go back to a silver/metallic color on a Genos successor. Professional keyboards (intended for stage use) have always been mostly black. (Lately you often see red or white stage keyboards. ;) )

By the way, I'm still not entirely happy with the fact that the underside of the Genos is WHITE. (But since I leave it in the lower part of the case during live operation anyway, you don't see much of it. :) )

I remember well when I saw the first ("leaked") pictures of the Genos, my first thought was: Hopefully the underside won't be WHITE?! (But I bought it anyway... ;) )

Best regards,
Chris

The white bottom of the Genos makes it look like some kind of recreational watercraft. A child's surfboard comes to mind. I can see the trendy black continuing because all the pro level stuff on stage is black. The again, Nord is red and sounds amazing. How dare they buck the black trend and violate the rules :o.

My only real objection to the current case is not so much the black color but the cheapness, which makes it difficult to keep clean. If there's a dust particle floating around John's DAW studio in the U.K., give it a month and the same dust particle will be sitting on my Genos where I live 100 kms east of Toronto ::).

My first synth was a Korg M1. I could keep that clean with a dry cloth or vacuum cleaner. It didn't fade, mar, or retain hand marks of any kind. It was a tank. Yamaha got cheap on the Genos case and still charged us a fortune. Does Rolls-Royce release their cars after one quick pass of Tremclad paint through the paint booth? Of course not. Then Yamaha shouldn't either.

Joe asked, "Will another color help you play better?" Of course not. It couldn't hurt though ;D ;D ;D!

Hopefully the next Genos, if it ever see the light, will be black as well.  :)
It looks beautiful, but the 'plastic fantastic' body they wrapped Genos into, make it feel cheap......

Joe, of course it makes me play better if the color is any other color than boring black. I just bought a white accordion. So now I will be a world famous artist😀😀😀

I know where you were coming from with this.

But there is some truth in it. I found it very difficult to read the black label text on the silver T5, especially on the voice and style category selections. I never seemed to be able to remember which was which, and ended up peering at the panel every time ...

I do like Genos being black, but of course it has the touchscreen with makes it a moot point anyway.

They can still produce a black plastic cover - just make it more robust and less prone to marring and damage. Heck, they make plastic bumpers for cars. Do the math!

The last thing we need is for them to give it a heavy medal cover. If they went to metal, the very people who could afford the Genos wouldn't be able to lift it!

I have noticed the black on mine has turned glossy or polished up where my fingers touch frequently.
I tried to re-matt it with cleaners ect but no good.
Just looks tatty , like a well handled remote control.

Same here. I have yet to find a cleaner that will fix this. I don't think there is a fix. Sadly, we can't fix "cheap design." Yamaha needs to do that.

Genos albino  ;D

Thanks for posting the pic. Made me think -- What case color goes best with the color graphics. To my taste, the color screen graphics clashed against the white/grey case.

Of course, I have no color sense and wear only black socks.  ;D

My 2 cents, I *love* the brushed black aluminim (or aluminium if you're not in North America) finish around the screens of the CVP809PE/PSRsx700/900/A5000 (the A5000's is brushed gunmetal gray not black, but close enough). I strongly dislike matte black, for the exact reasons mentioned: it wears and becomes glossy where frequently used. But alas, the rest of the keyboard is matte black.

That's actually the reason I didn't upgrade from the s970 to the 975... I strongly dislike the raw, matte black finish because I know it wears (going back to the PSRs950/750/650, the trade ins coming in always looked *really* worn, even if only a few years old). Despite the s975 and the s970 having the same onboard sounds, the extra available sample space (preinstalled and user) would've been enough to get me to upgrade, but the semigloss gunmetal grey metallic just looked so much nicer (and ages better. My s970 still looks brand new)

When you're a dealer, you see how trade in colours wear over time. And matte black tends to absorb dust as well. (btw, semigloss painted finishes usually age the best). P115/p125wh, DGX660w, all the new Roland FP's are semigloss, and the new Casio PXS series in white and red are all semigloss (the casios even have a gloss plate over the panel, which looks stunning).

And I also hate trying to see dark grey text on matte black when it's not brightly lit.

Heck, my old PSR60? I ended up taping over all the text with masking, then spray painting the whole thing metallic black!

The next Genos will certainly support unlimited SKINS and have an included PC skin editor with which you can customize the look of the display as you wish. ;)

Yamaha has completed pooped the bed when it comes to the outer case and button designs of the Genos. The biggest mistake I saw was with my old PSR3000. The screens had a navy blue background with red letters!!!!!! Are they serious :-\? They really need to register with this forum and LISTEN to the very people who contribute to their bottom line.

I am not patting myself on the back. But with the feedback so far, it helps everyone with what they may be interested in getting for colors with the next Genos keyboard or whatever it is called. Yes I hope Yamha reads these opinions, as without them I do not see any improvements. I think our voices together, is very powerful.  For Yamaha is mostly interested in Profits.
