Tyros 4 hard drive layout

Hi Folks,

I just wondered how is the T4 hard drive laid out in respect of partitions etc?

Is the user area part of the HD or is it a separate expansion and what size is it?

I am asking as I wish to modify some style pathways, so I can get the correct path in the registration file to the folders where the styles are stored.

Thanks,

Martin

Hi Arnak,

The User drive of the Tyros4 is only 6 MB (megabytes) in size and is located in the internal flash memory. The internal hard disk of the Tyros4 is 250 or 500 GB (gigabytes) in size.

Internal drive letters (used e.g. in registrations):
C:/   User drive
D:/   Preset drive
E:/   internal hard disk (HD1)
I:/    first connected USB stick (USB1)
J:/    second connected USB stick (USB2)

Note that the files/folders in the User drive are never located directly in "root", but are always automatically stored (depending on the file type) in one of the specified system folders (that are not visible directly on the keyboard but only when using the "MusicSoft Downloader" program):
C:/MULTI PAD/
C:/REGIST/
C:/SONG/
C:/STYLE/
C:/SYSTEM/
C:/TEXT/
C:/VOICE/

Best regards,
Chris

The T4 hard drive is a single partition. Whatever folders and subfolders (and therefore paths) are on it are whatever you create.

The easiest way to get the correct path for a registration is to re-memorize it. If you have a registration that can't find a user style, load the registration, find the style yourself, then re-memorize it.

If you have a lot to do, and find this tedious, my next recommendation is to move your styles to wherever the registrations are looking for them. That could be a lot easier than re-memorizing.

Finally, if neither of those are feasible, use Murray Best's Registration Manager to redo your registrations.

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for the help. :)

It looks as if I should move my files to an area on the HD as the user area will become full pretty quickly. :-[

When you say re-memorizing, do you mean load the reg bank and the style then re-save the reg bank to link the style to all the registrations in that bank?

Thanks,

Martin

"memorize" means using the Memory button.  "save" means saving the registration file.

This terminology matches the terms used by the keyboard.

Hi Martin,

If the style has been memorized in ALL registrations of a bank, you must of course also re-memorize ALL registrations after the style has been reloaded manually. The procedure would then be:
- Press "Direct Access > Freeze" and make sure that only the checkmark "STYLE" is set in the Freeze settings. Press "EXIT" and make sure that the Freeze function is switched off (LED does not light up).
- Load the desired registration bank.
- Press registration button #1.
- Manually load the style from its new location.
- Re-memorize button #1. Make sure that the necessary checkmarks are set in the memory window.
- Activate Freeze to lock the style.
- Press Registration button #2 and re-memorize this button.
- Re-memorize the rest of the buttons in the same way.
- Re-save the registration bank.
- Turn Freeze off again.

P.S.
Some users only memorize the style in the first registration of their banks, i.e. the other registrations of the bank do not change the style. In this case it would of course be sufficient to just re-memorize Registration #1 and then directly re-save the bank. :)

By the way, the "Registration Manager" program mentioned by Fred is here:

Hope this helps!

Hi, Chris,

Thanks very much for the info. :)

The instructions are very clear.

I'll do that and once I have the path set I can use the Reg Manager to make sure the whole bank is set correctly.
