● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

Thanks for posting that.
I have the 650 which is fine for me but it's cool to see the new bells and whistles that are being added.

Guys, I am not quite sure... but from the style control buttons I think that the DGX 670 has 4-variations styles!! At last!!

And SuperArticulation voices!! Now isn't that cool!!  8)

At long last!. I sold my DGX660 some months ago, but I am now more on other things, using mainly my Kawai VPC1
Jose Gavila
Yamaha: U3H, DX7, TX81Z, DX11, SY77, TG77, SY85, A3000, AN1x, EX5, EX5R, EX7, MOTIF RACK XS, MONTAGE 6 (B & WH), MODX6+, GENOS

Plus lots other music toys :-)

Just watched a DGX-670 demo at the Believe In Music event:

https://youtu.be/bwmc3LWE_t0
https://youtu.be/Cj_RkMMqJBM

Yamaha really stepped up the DGX! Super Articulation, Natural voices, VRM -- wow! I hope they add VRM to the arranger line. $800 USD street. If you're missing graded hammer action and want an arranger-like instrument, it's definitely worth a look and a try.

Nicely done -- pj

VRM: Virtual Resonance Modeling

vbdx66

Yep. And if I understood correctly, Megavoices and a Style Creator :D

This one will sell like hot buns 8)

SciNote

Interesting that the Yamaha page first shows it being available in December of 2020 for an MSRP of $349.95, but then right under it says available in February for an MSRP of $1299.00!  It would be interesting to try buying it directly from Yamaha for the $349.95 and then telling them that's what it says on their website!

Hi Bob,

Are you volunteering to try this?  8)

This is probably a confusion of some kind. The price you're stating is that of the EZ300.

Just having fun.  Obviously some sort of glitch or mistake on the website, but at the moment, the Yamaha web link listed in the second post of this thread (by overover) has the following text:

Additional features of the DGX-670 include:

601 instrument Voices, including 29 Drum/SFX Kits, as well as 263 accompaniment Style presets.
Bluetooth audio, which allows musicians to play their music through the new 10W x 2 speaker system—an improvement over the DGX-660 6W x 2 speaker system.
"USB to Host" that functions as a two way 2-channel audio and 16-channel MIDI interface.
$349.95 MSRP, available in black and white, Dec. 2020
    Additional headphone model: YH-E500A on-ear ($179.95 / Dec. 2020)

But then right below that, it states the $1299.00 MSRP.  So, as much fun as it would be to try to obtain this keyboard for $350, I think Yamaha would quickly refer me to the actual price printed right below it!

Bob, I am guessing that the $350 is the price for the optional stand + triple pedals. Someone simply did not upload the text properly.

There looks like one very major change in the DGX670 compared to the 660.

Previously, the DGX range worked in the same way as the E-series in terms of having a fixed number of voices/styles selected by number, and very limited editing allowed. With the 670, it has moved up to using the file-based system which means you can save and load voices and styles freely on USB. You also have the full voice set editing, plus 5 assignable DSP, and the style creator. It is really quite a step up and is now more at the level of the PSR S750 (without the expansion memory).

Hi Derek,

One thing comes to my mind:

Does this mean that the DGX 670 will be able to read voice files created on the SX600? That would be really cool.

janamdo

The registrations from DXG 670 don't work on SX 600
Probably there is no combined use between registrations of different keyboards then( what i aspected )

Hello Vinciane --

Just took a quick look at the MIDI implementation. VCE files are MIDI files in disguise and the voice data is encoded as MIDI messages. The -670 XG MIDI implementation looks comparable to a mid-range arranger. So, I think VCE files should transfer over as long as the -670 supports the same DSP effects and basic voices (MSB/LSB/PC). Stuff like harmonic content, brightness and so forth should carry over.

All the best -- pj

Hi PJD,

This looks pretty cool. I think we have some interesting experiments ahead of us with the new DGX and the PSR SX series 8)

One thing the DGX 670 will be missing is the arpeggiator, though  :(

Hi Vinciane, as PJD says it will read the voice files. Whether it sounds OK or not depends on whether the underlying waveform is present on the DGX or not. A lot of them will be there, some won't.

It should also read all the PSR style files and the real advantage is that you no longer need to load a small number of styles into the DGX memory first - they should play straight off a USB.

I've never had much success with the arpeggiator. Joe H posted some guidance, but I still can't get the hang of it!

Hi Derek,

Actually the possibility to play styles directly from an USB stick has been there for a long time in the DGX line. My DGX 650 can already do this, and I think a long time ago I could even do this on the DGX 640.

As for the voices, this is really good news  :)

No but this is indeed the case for the PSR E series.

Another cool thing the DGX670 has, is Adaptive Style Accompaniment that will automatically switch between style patterns (A,B,C,D) depending on how hard you press the keys, or the number of notes you press. Very cool!  :)

vbdx66

Yes this is a cool feature but if I understood correctly, it'll always switch to an adjacent variation, aka from A to B, B to C, ... or conversely from D to C, C to B, ... so if you're a seasoned player, you'll have more flexibility if you activate your chosen variation by pressing manually the dedicated button.

I've got two questions: will the Break button activate a different break depending on the chosen variation?

Also, with the Style Creator, is there a way to simply change a voice in a given style part, for instance to replace an electric piano by an organ or an electric bass by an acoustic bass?

One thing I noticed is that the soundset is similar to the PSR S670/S770 or Tyros 4/5 based on the demo videos floating around. Anyone else think so? Very enticing for a cheap watered down Clavinova CVP 701 for the home, tempted to buy one haha  :P

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9X3SV_KhHA

vbdx66

Well, not quitte, because the piano sound is actually better than in the aforementioned keyboards. 8) It is the same CFX piano sample than in the Clavinova's and in the Genos, with Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM). ;D

It also has a better inbuilt amplification system, as well as an integrated bidirectional USB audio interface. Basically, this means that you can connect the DGX to an iPad for instance, use it as a MIDI controller to control a synth app (e.g. Korg iM1 or whatever) on your iPad and have the audio output redirected to the DGX via USB. This also works the other way round: you can directly send the DGX audio output to your iPad or computer, for instance to record your performance in a DAW without needing an external digital audio interface. Very convenient.

Also, it is much more portable than the higher-end Clavinova's  :D

The only thing this DGX is missing is an arpeggiator. What, the very basic PSR E373 has a very nice one!

I think the DGX670 might be the ideal middle-range keyboard/digital piano for venues such as churches, clubs, restaurants and alike... that is to say, when they'll open again after the lockdown of course.

It's easier than that.

Just open the mixer, go to the style page, select the part you want to change and pick a new voice. It has to be a panel voice though, you can't use voices that you've tweaked yourself. You can then save the modified style in a registration. Actually, you can save any style mixer tweaks (e.g. voice, volumes, pan, effect setting, filter, cutoff) in a registration.

You only really need to use the style creator if you've replaced one of the actual part patterns, or if you want to be able to select the modified style as a 'standalone' style.
