Hi all,

as of recently, all free Yamaha Expansion Packs (for Genos, Tyros5, PSR-SX and PSR-Sx7x models) can also be conveniently downloaded via direct download links now.

You no longer have to go to the Yamaha USA shop, put the desired packs in the shopping cart, etc. and then download them using the links in "My Account > My Library".

This new page is available on various local Yamaha sites worldwide, e.g. in UK, France and Germany (but NOT yet in the USA ;) ).

So just select the desired keyboard model above, then click on the desired pack. Now click again on the desired model for which the pack is to be downloaded. Finished! :)

UK:

France:
>>> https://fr.yamaha.com/fr/products/contents/keyboards/vse/index.html

Germany:
>>> https://de.yamaha.com/de/products/contents/keyboards/vse/index.html

Have fun! :)

Best regards,
Chris

Finally a solution that makes sense. Now the question is how to get rid of all those entries in MyLibrary that nobody really needs?  :P

High Chris,

Presumably you need YEM for these?

Best wishes,
Richard.

Hi Richard,

yes, you always need to import the Pack files (.cpf) into the YEM first. Then you select the desired contents (whole Packs or only certain parts of Packs), and finally save your original Pack Install file (.cpi) which is used to install the desired Expansion content on the keyboard.

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Michael,

yes, in "My Library" of my Yamaha account there are currently (felt) "hundreds" of order entries... ;)

Hi John,

unfortunately, Tyros4 is not compatible to the YEM technology. So you cannot use these free Packs. You would need a Tyros5, Genos, PSR-S970/770 or PSR-SX model to can use these Packs in .cpf format.

And Yamaha probably doesn't offer any Tyros4 compatible Packs at the moment.

P.S.
You could search the internet for free UVN / UVD Voices. But please note that Tyros4 only has a total of 128 Custom Normal Voice slots plus 20 Custom Drum Voice slots. On this site, for example, you can find such Tyros4-compatible Voices:
>>> http://fred17.eklablog.com/voices-tyros-et-voices-diverses-c25836400

(Of course you must have installed a Flash ROM Expansion Memory module to be able to load Expansion Voices.)

Chris

Thanks for your quick feedback, John!

Yes, Tyros4 is a good keyboard. I swapped my "good old" Tyros4 for a Tyros5 when it came on the market. I currently have Tyros5 and Genos. Each of these two keyboards has certain advantages but also disadvantages. So I keep both ... ;)

Chris

Your welcome Chris.
I started with a Tyros 2 and loved it. When i upgraded to the 4 i thought "What have i done"? The Tyros 4 was a completely different sound and it took me a while to get used to. I tried a friends tyros 5 but didn't like the sound, Even setting it up like my 4.I have heard that some players who had the 5 decided to go back to the 4?
Anyway take care
John.

No Robert,

you only need a Yamaha account if you use the Yamaha download shop (https://shop.usa.yamaha.com).

The Yamaha Packs, which are all free now, can also be downloaded without a Yamaha account, e.g. here:
>>> https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/contents/keyboards/vse/index.html#

Important: These Yamaha Packs are in the protected .cpf format. It is therefore important that you download exactly the Tyros5 version for each Pack. .cpf files created for other models will NOT work with the Tyros5. (Not all Packs offered by Yamaha have a Tyros5 version, so some of those Packs cannot be installed on Tyros5!)

Pack Install files (.ppi / .cpi) are always model-specific! You can only install a third-party (not created in your YEM) .ppi or .cpi file on the Tyros5 if the file was created specifically for the Tyros5. In addition, please note that when installing a .ppi / .cpi file, ALL previously installed expansion content will be DELETED from the keyboard!

In order to install several expansion Packs at the same time or to combine the content of several Packs, you need all Packs in .ppf / .cpf format.

If not already done, then export the Instrument Info file (.n27) from your Tyros5 to a USB stick and import this file into the YEM as "Install Target".

After you have imported all the desired Packs (.ppf / .cpf) into the YEM (under "My Packs"), click on your Install Target "TYROS 5" and make sure that all the Packs you want to install on the Tyros5 , are marked with a light green tick.

Then click on the button "Save as Pack Install File" and save your own Pack Install file on the connected USB stick. (If only unprotected .ppf packs are involved, a .ppi file is created on the stick. If at least one protected .cpf pack is involved, however, a .cpi file is created.)

Then you connect the USB stick to the Tyros5 and start the Pack Installation. Finished! :)

Best regards,
Chris

Hi Robert,

if you are on Windows 10 (64bit) or Windows 8.1 (64bit), I recommend updating to the latest YEM version 2.7.0.

On Windows 7 or the new macOS "Big Sur", YEM V2.6.0 is recommended.

Best regards,
Chris

Re problems I had loading free YEM packs, I have 32bit Windows Vista, Yamaha states it no longer supports Vista.  I downloaded YEM Version 6.00 ( for Windows 10 ) and it all works fine with Vista, this may help old Windows software users.  Robert.

I mean, after importing all the packs to yem , put green tick and create that ppi installation file, normally we need to install it to sx900 to create an expantion. (I just wondering,is it possible to extract that ppi file using style extractor and put those file to usb and use,without installing ppi file to instrument)
sorry for my poor english
Thanks

Welcome to the PSR Tutorial forum, praveenfonseka!

The "StyleExtractor" program can be used to extract Styles from both .ppf and .ppi files. So, you do NOT need to first import a .ppf Pack Project file into YEM and then export a .ppi Pack Install file. Just load the .ppf file directly into "StyleExtractor". :)

Note: "StyleExtractor" can NOT handle protected Pack files (.cpf / .cpi). And you can NOT create an unprotected .ppi Pack Install file from a protected .cpf file. (If at least one protected .cpf Pack is involved, you will get a protected .cpi Pack Install file when clicking on "Save as Pack Install File" button in YEM.)

So, to get/copy Styles from protected Packs you have to import the .cpf file into YEM and then install it on the keyboard (using the Pack Install File method or via a wireless LAN connection). Then you can use the USB Storage Mode (on Genos or Tyros5) to copy the Expansion Styles to an USB stick or to another storage location of the internal User drive or the internal hard drive (in case of Tyros5). With PSR-S/SX models, the USB Storage Mode is not available, but you can use the Yamaha MusicSoft Downloader program instead, or you can LOAD the Styles (one by one) and SAVE it to another location.

Best regards,
Chris
