I wonder if there is anyone who could explain the file system on the Tyros 5?
I have purchased several 3rd party software over time, registrations and styles, and would like to store them on the Tyros 5 HD but have had no success.
The reg. and sty.files are in the root of USB sticks and load without a problem but if I try to copy them to the HD the link between registration and files is broken  i.e.the registration loads all right but does not include the correct style. Is there a way to get round this problem? I understand that the registration needs to know where the styles are but how does this work? If the new registration is using one of the Tyros preset styles  there is no problem .Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes. When you move a file, you have to tell the registration you did so. How else is it supposed to know?

When you move (or rename) a file, you have to re-memorize all registrations that load the file.

Hi Fred,
Thanks for your prompt reply. I understand that the registration needs to know where the styles etc. are but had a faint hope that the Tyros would somehow work it out ! As I see it then I would have to load each registration, amend the style info.and then save the reg. and then save the reg. bank. Quite a laborious job! I don't suppose there is a PC program that could ease the process? Thanks again for your help.

There is. Use Murray Best's Yamaha Registration Manager.

I have the keyboard connectable to my desk top computer.

1. Copy all the contents of your memory stick into the computer. this will be your backup copy.
2. Connect the keyboard to the computer.
3. Copy the contents of the memory stick directly into the keyboard (to wherever your own registrations are, but to it's own recognisable FOLDER).

I've just bought a commercially produced memory stick (yesterday) and I've transferred it's contents directly into my Tyros5. No problems.

Worth a try if you think you are competent to do this sort of thing.
I have a Tyros5/76 & Tyros4 SE XL.
My keyboard holds every song ever written. I just have to find them.

John,

Moving registrations is not the issue. You can copy/move/rename registrations without any problems. As you've found out.

The problem comes when you move files (like user styles) that registrations refer to. When you move these files, you have to re-memorize the registrations.

If you're simply moving files from one drive to another (ie, USB to User), you can use YRM's batch mode to change the drive letters for all registrations in a folder in one go.

This is what I had tried and found that the styles were missing. As Fred explained the style files have been moved but the RGT. file has to be informed of their new address.,in my innocence I thought the high tech. Tyros would work it all out for me.Not to be I'm afraid. As some of my Reg. collections contain quite a few files I think I will just leave them where they are and use them from their USB rather than re programme each file.

Or use Murray Best's YRM to change the address (ie, drive letter) in one go.

Hi, I have tried the YRM programme but without success.Tried a batch conversion of a folder and although the files in the amended folder showed that the style location code had been changed to E (hard disc)  when transferred to the HD the registration still failed to find the style. Not used the YRM before and it's probably something I'm doing wrong. Will have another dabble tomorrow !

Remember, the folder tree, as well as the drive, has to match the location of the file.

You can also post a link to your registration, and we'll take a look at it for you.

Hi Fred,
Having had a good study of your Registration Lessons I better understand the Tyros file system but have not been successful with the YRM programme.I tried another, albeit more lengthy ,procedure by using a HEX file editor programme in my PC and changing the style location letter  in the registration files and this seems to have worked !
I appreciate your very helpful advice Your Reg.Lessons should be compulsory viewing to all Tyros users ..
Many thanks,
