Latest Version of EMC Style Works - ISSUE RESOLVED!

I recently bought a copy of Style Factory from EMC.

Does anyone here have the latest version of EMC Style Works Universal XT or Style Works Yamaha? I'm looking for the PSR S970.snd file, or PSR S975.snd file. This is a (text) voice definition file. Klaus says he doesn't have one, but my experience with him is he is not so cooperative.

The program description for Style Works Yamaha states there is support for Tyros 3, 4 & 5, newer PSR, CLP and DGX series for the SFF2 format.

There is no PSR S970.snd file for Style Factory, so I'm creating my own sound map for the S970, (it's very time consuming) but if one already exists, and someone is willing to share the file with me I'd love to have it to save myself a lot of time and work.   If you have one to share please email me. Thanks in advance.

Hi Joe!

YEM CE could build this file?

Thanks.

Vali,

I would need the Preset Voice list for the S970 in YEM.  I think this only possible with the Tyros 5 and Genos because there is NO editing of Preset Voices in YEM for the PSR keyboards.

I have to do this the hard way... copy the Voice list from the PDF Data List Book as text and then edit in Note Pad to reformat to Style Factory format.  I'm working on that now.  It's time consuming, but I will get it done.

Vali,

I will send you the finished Voice file when I have completed it.  It must contain categories of Panel Voices, Legacy Voices, Mega Voices, XG/GM Voices, and GM2 Voices. It is more complicated than just a list of the pack Voices.

I have downloaded a version of Tyros4.snd ... and I have saw what contains...
It is simple to make it from DataList of keyboard.

It would be nice if there was a utility to convert Voice Definition files from the PDF Data List Book for many MIDI programs and DAWS.

Just copy and paste as a text file, then load text file into the utility, select desired program / DAW and generate a Voice file in the correct format.

People on the forum are always looking for Voice files for Cubase, XGWorks, Sonar, and other software. I have wanted to create a Voice file for Mix Master that displayed Voices in categories like we see displayed on our keyboards. IE; Piano, Organ, Strings, Synth, etc. But Michael said there is no such Voice file for MixMaster/PadMaker/Padmaker-Midi.

I downloaded the latest version of Style Works Universal XT. (though I cannot register the program) It does not have a PSR S970.snd file.  Looks like Klaus made the same error about style file types, IE; SFF vs SFF2 and keyboard models. Too bad he's not interested in updating his programs to comply with Yamaha formats... he sure charges enough for them. He should be willing to maintain them and keep them up to date.

:D

I ran a test on Style Factory by loading a partial S970 file (it must include the XG/GM and GM2 Voices) and renamed it Tyros4.snd.  It works just fine. So... I can trick the program into supporting my keyboard for SFF2 styles by renaming the file.

I decided to change from Tyros4 to the Tyros3 file. (assign and access the Tyros 3 (PSR S970 Voices). I also added 5 expansion pack Voice lists to the file. (thanks to Vali's YEMCE v2). So it's coming along. I just need to finish converting some of the Legacy Voice list and Mega Voice list and it will be complete.

Darn that Klaus... how can he offer his programs without full support for Yamaha arrangers? It's a shame I have to go through so much work just to start using the program.  If I didn't think the program was worth it, I wouldn't be going through all this effort.

I've added style categories for Ambient, Chill Beat, Club Dance and Trance... which is my focus right now. Next I will be adding MANY custom phrases to the Phrase Library. These phrases will come from my own custom styles, 3rd party styles and my custom Multi Pads converted to style Parts using StyleMagic. You can audition phrases before you drag 'n drop them to a style Part, then change the Voice from a Preset Voice to a expansion pack Voice.

Three things I like about Style Factory is the phrase audition, drag 'n drop feature, and customizing the program to suit your own interests.  This is why I bought the program in the first place.  I got tired of waiting on Thomas at midisoft to update his program to do something similar... which he indicated he would do.

When all the additions and modifications are complete, it will be (much) better than Style Creator Assembly on the keyboard. I will then be one HAPPY CAMPER!

:)

Hi Joe.

I don't blame anyone for not giving full support in their softs for Yamaha arrangers. First of all, there are a LOT of things unknown about Yamaha products because Yamaha hide those things from users. So why to blame third party and not Yamaha?!
In my opinion, it is a software that must be used AS IT IS, and if someone wants more, must do itself the job, as you did!

So, I repeat: I don't think someone externally from Yamaha corporation must consider itself guilty of not providing FULL support to Yamaha 's products! Yamaha is the only one who is guilty for not providing those things in its softs or products!  :(

Hi Vali,

I respect your point of view.  My point is that someone offering commercial software should keep it updated.  Klaus don't seem to understand about Yamaha's different style formats.  He made an error with his programs. eg; the PSR 740 and PSR 9000 are listed for only 2 Main Sections, when they support 4 Main Sections.  That's what I'm talking about. He's had many years to correct this mistake. At least he has allowed for workarounds for his correcting his mistakes and shortcomings.

The issue is resolved! I have completed the PSR S970 Sound Map (renamed Tyros3.snd) for Style Factory.  The file includes support for the follow Voices:

Panel Voices
Legacy Voices
XG/GM Voices
GM2 Voices
Mega Voices
Organ Flute Voices
5 expansion pack Voices

Whew... I'm talking approximately 2000 Voices in all... Mission accomplished!

You probably won't hear much from me for awhile since I will be working on creating custom style phrases to add to Style Factory's Phrase Library.

:)    :)    :)

Joe H

PS: If anyone could use this file for EMC Style Works email me.  I will remove the 5 expansion pack Voices and send it to you.  It will have the name Tyros3.snd. Style Works is configured the same as Style Factory for SFF2 styles.
