MIDIPlayer "not responding" on Win10/64...but WHY?

Dave Nuttall

I've been a long time user of MIDI Player on Windows10/64.
Today after bootup, I tried to open styles with MIDI Player to audition them (connected to GENOS).
Whether loading one or several styles, the program attempts to prepare the first one for play (message in lower left says something about taking a few seconds to load), but MINUTES go by and TaskManager shows "not responding".

So I uninstalled/removed all traces of MIDIPlayer and reinstalled "as administrator" then updated and it runs OK, but same result.

I changed permissions on the install folder and removed all the "read-only" flags I can find related to MIDI Player.

It has been working flawlessly for a long time and no Windows updates in the past 24 hrs that could be blamed.

Any ideas/tips/tricks to fix it would greatly appreciated.
I need to be able to audition styles from the PC.
TIA.

Hi Dave, I downloaded and installed PSR MidiPlayer on Windows 10/64 for the first time three days ago and couldn't get it to send MIDI sequences to my PSR-S910. Other programs worked flawlessly but not PSR MidiPlayer. I ran the PSWMidiMapper utility in the 8.3.1 update to no avail. I then discovered https://coolsoft.altervista.org/en/midimapper and it worked. If you haven't yet solved the problem, please give CoolSoft MIDIMapper a try.

Update: Sadly it's not working today. Going through PD now to see if I can figure out why.

You could audition your style files using "Simplified Style Player" until you resolve the MidiPlayer issue, Dave.  The link follows:

Just a little correction :
I (Etienne - vlbrgt) took over the programming for MixMaster, PadMaker-Midi, PadMaker-Style and OpenText from M.P. Bedesem.
MidiPlayer I do not maintain, because it is made in VB 6.0 and I don't use that (VB 6.0 doesn't work in Windows 10).

For the 4 aforementioned programs I will always be available to help with any problems.
