Cubase and Genos bank select issues

Hi,

I am having an issue with Cubase Artist 10.5 and Genos that I hope someone can help me with.

I have the Genos patch banks configured in Cubase midi device manager and I can select the sounds from Genos in Cubase without any problems.
The problem is that when I turn off the Genos and start it up again, all the sounds in Genos are changed and I need to re-select the sounds again in Cubase.
It looks like Genos dont receive correct information from Cubase on what sounds Cubase tells it to play.

When I look at the midi data in Cubase list editor, I can see some sy*** events, but not any bank select events and I guess that this is the issue here, but I am not sure how I can record those bank select messages.

I've been using Cubase since version 5 with other workstations and sound modules without those issues, so I am a bit confused about why this happens with Genos.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Jugge,

Using the Data List, just add the MSB/LSB/PRG changes to the very beginning of the file using the List Editor. Then make sure to "rewind" in Cubase to the start so it can pick-up on these settings before it gets to the first note.

Hope that helps.

Cheers, Roland

Thank you Roland. I was suspecting that the MSB/LSB/PRG settings needed to be manually inserted in the midi data.
The strange thing is that I cannot remember that I had to do this before in older versions of Cubase and that it was enough to select the sound in Cubase and that the MSB/LSB/PRG changes would be included in themidi data when recording, just like when we are using the included midi recorder in Genos.

Best regards

I did some tests and was able to find the control change messages needed for changing sounds, set volume and reverb levels, etc.
Now the bonus question. What would be the easiest way to also save the effect settings for the various sounds I am using in a song? I imagine that this is normally done via sy***, so it might not be that easy.
Could I simply use a registration bank and save the effects there and then call that registration up when I am working on the song? Or should I create an internal midi song and save the effect settings there and use that as a template?

Thanks

If I may butt in here, I would think that might depend on how "portable" and "self-contained" you want the song to be. In other words, if you'll be the only person to ever use it, and always with that keyboard, then a registration may be a good solution. But if you want to be able to share the song file with others, or use it yourself on other keyboards, then you'd be better off having everything you need in the file itself so you don't have to worry about how to include the registration with it.

Yes, that makes perfect sense.

I use Xgworks
When i make a midi recording on the Tyros
I load it in xgworks
Clean the whole song make a new mix
and save it as a sy*** bank
The bank is always in the first measure midi track 1
And very easy to remix by removing part 1 first measure
and place the new one
You can save the sy*** as a midi file and use it as a global setting mix
Just play the mix and all setting are there
So you can make your own perf. on the computer
Or different mixen voor the same song
a mix for home playing or a mix for a footbal stadion
Not only that you can make mixen for different keyboards
Most pro midi file got them
The keyboard looks only to his own sy*** end ignore other ones

Thank you for a great advice, Janus. I must have a look at Xgworks.
