I have never used these expansion packs ...but I have them all!
including the new 2.0 Superior pack for Genos.

1- Please simply explain what they are & how to use?
2- How do you install them?
3- Are they used separate from the factory/user styles etc..?
4- Can you load them to use in KB user style banks like other styles?
5- What is the YEM and do you need to use it to use these new styles in some way or?

Toril S

Hello :) I have never used this either. YEM stands for Yamaha Expansion Manager, and it is a free program to install on your Mac or PC. We need this to create the packs. Thats all I know. Have just downloaded it on my PC.
Toril S

Genos, Tyros 5, PSR S975, PSR 2100
and PSR-47.
Former keyboards: PSR-S970.

Install the latest version 2.6. Save your ID No from your Keyboard to a USB stick and then import this into the YEM. You will now see Genos on the left hand side of the screen. Now you can import your packs into YEM. Each pack will show up in the screen. Make sure you select Genos on the left side on screen. All your packs will have a tick on them. Select the ones you want to load by putting a green tick in them. Now you have two choices to load them into keyboard. Either save to a USB stick or load wirelessly into your keyboard.

why cant you just download the styles and sounds like all the others without the expansions packs etc, etc, ....
there has to be an easier way.....I'm pulling my hair out and about to just give up.

Before installing V2.0, I currently have four expansion packs installed on my Genos.
#1. Will the update erase these expansion packs?
#2. If so, how do I reload these expansion packs?
#3. I downloaded the latest YEM 2.6. My Genos is connected via wirelss LAN and is showing as my instrument, but none of my packs expansion packs are showing.

Please walk me through the steps to save and replace my expansion packs after the V2.0 firmware update.

#4. Is there an available free expansion pack for this firmware update? How do I get that?

Thanks

EileenL

This pack contains new sampled voices there fore like all other packs has to be loaded into the YEM and then loaded into the keyboard. Not a difficult job to do and the playlist will pick up all these new styles if loaded in correctly. Mine are working fine.

Eileen where do I find the genos ID ? I have the YEM installed

secondly does the genos have to be connected to my PC via usb to device wire or wireless first.

EileenL

The update will not remove any packs you have loaded. You do not want your keyboard linked to computer when updating YEM. If you had packs in YEM already when you update it they will stay in YEM. It is advised that you import your ID No. in again. Download the Super Pack from the Yamaha download site and install that into the YEM. You can now make an install pack by ticking all the packs you want to load Make sure you have these packs that you have in your keyboard also on the YEM so that you can reload them with the new pack.
Eileen

EileenL

No you don't want the keyboard connected to computer. Go to your genos and press Menu now select Expansion. Make sure you have a USB stick in keyboard and then select Export instrument Info. Now put the USZB stick into computer and go to the YEM and on the top left press the plus sign on Install Target. You will now see Genos showing under this.

Eileen explains it in a good way.

I never tried to install packs by use of USB stick, I only use YEM.
When look into the manuals, it seems like that YEM is essential even if use USB.
If I understand it correctly, the packs has to be imported to YEM where it's being extracted.
Then you must export it to the usb stick before continue import to Genos. The instrument info file is a key that also must be imported to YEM.
I think this is a part of the copyprotection system, and that it also will deny packfiles copyed from other users.

gdoakley@comcast.net

Eileen, I disconnected the Genos from the wireless LAN and exported the instrument info to a USB stick. In YEM I imported the instrument information. None of my current purchased expansion packs are appearing on the YEM screen. How do I get this to work? My understanding is that I have to get the new expansion pack and load all of my existing packs & new packs back into the Genos, right?

Another one here with problems  :-\ :-\ I have updated my Genos to the new version successfully ,I installed the new version of YEM on my laptop,I then downloaded the Super Pack to YEM and then tried to install by WLAN to Genos ,this was not a success,my laptop could not 'see ' Genos and Genos could not 'see'my laptop.I then trensfered the Superpack to USB and put this into the keyboard.Genos then came up with a message saying additional files were required, cgi and another type also.
So I am also not able to load this new pack to date ,perhaps I have not unzipped the packed correctly but all the voices and styles appear in the YEM.Where can I have gone wrong ?

Where did you get the Superior pack from? It is not listed on the usa.yamaha.com downloads?

Stijn

Hi Alan,

The first Pack Installation after the 2.0 Update must be done with a .cpi version of the pack, in other words a 'fresh install'. Afterwards you can add packs to the Expansion memory without the need of formatting the memory.

You make a .cpi version of your pack by Saving it (in YEM) to the USB drive, like this:

Save as Pack Install File:
Save As select Pack Installation File (*.cpi)

To add new packs later, you can then Save As Pack Quick Installation (*.cqi)

Hi Stijn
Thanks for the reply,I will examine the file extensions on the USB and check my download files, perhaps I've gone wrong somewhere, there must be a simple reason,I'll have another go later this evening.

The downloaded updatefile contain both .cpi and .cpf file. Also a Read me.txt file
Maybe that's why they say you can do a quick USB install?

When I opened YEM after the update, all my previous packs was still visible in the window, but as usual, after import the new pack, all items had to be ticked before install to G.

Dnj

I have been at this for hours with no sucess using a USB stick & YEM.....
every time I try to install from usb stick it says failed to access data? this is so frustrating...
I get this message every time???    what is wrong??

Hi Dnj
Transfer File named Pack install data cpi. to usb ,no others necessary, put USB into Genos go to Menu 2,then EXPANSION,then tap on Pack install, should work OK then.

My USB with the new data on is called USB 2 by Genos, this because USB 1 is in the USB compartment underneath the keyboard

Dnj,

The .cpf file is used by the computer program Yamaha Expansion Manager to create a Pack on a USB drive.
This Pack can then be installed on Genos, and many more packs that are available on
https://uk.yamaha.com/en/products/musical_instruments/keyboards/arranger_workstations/genos/downloads.html#product-tabs

Scroll down to Other downloads

Your first Pack must be Saved As a "Pack Installation file  *.cpi (not the .cqi -- this is for later use when you want to ADD packs, without formatting the memory)

Finally after 5 hours of trying I have successfully installed the superior expansion pack to genos.
I want to thank all of you  who tried to help me ....
finally the problem was as stated by members here  to first time save the file from
YEM  file as a .cpi not a .cqi
to a clean USB stick..
It's working now ...I'll listen to all the wonderful styles & sounds now.

Thank you all again here on PSR Tutorial

Dnj,

These instructions may help you.

Stijn

Stijn,

Great set of instructions that you have posted.  About a year or so ago you sent these and they were helpful.  I'm traveling and won't be at my Genos until after November 25th. >:(

When I got the Genos, I used YEM and muddled my way through it..  I got most packs onto Genos that I had on Tyros..  The Alto Saxes does't work, although the pack shows the two saxes in the folder,  they don't make it too Genos..Just an empty folder. I downloaded install Genos V2 pretty smoothly..  I started to fiddle with Yem, but got nowhere.  It seems hopeless complex procedure, and very 1980 DOS.  I got frustrated and went for a walk..  I' tackle it again tomorrow.

I have a lot of UVI libraries I use with Logic Pro..  (over 40).  You only need click one button, and the brilliant written software, and UVI website does the rest. Wish all updates, library installs could be so easy

I do love the Genos though
