Hello friends. Saturday evening I bought the Genos! You all know that I have been sceptical to it, not the instrument itself, but I was not at all sure that I could operate the touch screen with a vision of only five percent. Our store is closing, so I had to make a hasty decision, since I don't like to buy instruments from the internet. So I purchased it. Got a very good deal, I even got a beautiful Genos case and the speakers for free. My model have been used as a demo for some time in the shop, but is in prestine condition. Here is my honest opinion:

Design: It is only slightly longer then my T5/61, and is lighter, but with 76 keys! It has a fine black finish, that look professional, and the design grows on my, although I still have to give Tyros the point for being the best looking. The Genos has a light grey underside that is not so pretty on an otherwise black instrument! I am pleased they got rid of that cable bundle, the speakers are connected directly to the instrument. Neat and tidy! Happy about that! The sub is of same dimensions as on Tyros, but is lighter, and has the power switch on the fromt, with a LED on it. I like that. They didn't get rid of that awful 8 pin contact though. It is all in all a beautiful instrument! Modern, sleak and neat!

Sound: The drums are way better. As for other sounds, I am sure they are improved too, but I will have to do some tweaking to make it sound better in my study, full of bookshelves, computers and other stuff. Not the best place soundwise, but it will have to do. The styles are not all to my liking, OTS and such is not as good as on Tyros, but that can be changed! I will import my T5 styles on it.

USERFRIENDLY? Oh, yes!! It turned out that all my fears were ungrounded, I have no difficulty operating the touch screen, and I find many things are more easy to do on the Genos than on the Tyros! So I was wrong, just wrong! I am not a power user, so there are many features that I never will be using, and having so little eyesight, there is always some challenges, but all in all I am walking in the air, being so happy that I finally got around to getting the Genos! Conclusion: This is the best Yamaha arranger EVER!!

Hi Toril

Well done, the Genos is a superb keyboard and I'm so happy that you are getting on OK with it.I know you had concerns when Genos was first introduced about using a touch screen, so that is all good that you can operate it without problems,I personally like the finish of Genos, although T5  is finished nicely also.
Looking forward to some music from you,get aquainted with your Genos first  :) and then post some of your nice music for us   :) :) :)

Don't forget to make adjustments to the EQ and gain settings in the mixer,it may not have been set from new in the shop,it makes a lot of difference to the sound, although you probably are aware of this

Best wishes

Alan

What does " so little eyesight," mean,
Just inquisitive.

Pino :

We all know what is wrong with Toril's sight problem.

She even explained it once again in one of her previous messages of this thread.

So ... please ...

Sorry I missed that explanation, maybe you can point me to it,

My eye specialist recons nobody should have eye problems with today's advancements in medical procedures

I did wear eye glasses for everyday life, driving and reading for the past 10 years.

Last time I went for and eye test at my hospital they recommended that I have 'Lens replacement'
That's 6 months ago,
I never wear any eye glasses now even for reading and can read the pdf sheet music from my iPad even in dim lights.

Just wandered why TORIL didn't go for this.

I sincere appreciate your concern about one health, Pino. But I should sent a PM to the person I am concern about. Not everyone want to discuss this on a public forum. It has to do with privacy, and that should be respected.
My best regards,
Ton

Ton,
I don't know what Toril's problem is.
That's why I asked the question
Maybe this could help her also.

But my main objective is to tell everyone about my wonderful experience.
Maybe some other member had the same problem as me.
And now thinking maybe there is a hope,

Is that not good?

Pino

Ofcourse your intention is good, Pino! But what I meant is that not everyone whish to discuss it on public, as you invited a named person to share his/her health with everyone. Than a PM is better. That's what I wrote and meant. No more to say, let's talk about keyboards  ;)
My best regards,
Ton

Pino, I was born with cataract and was blind till I was 3 years old. Then I got some eyesight when the lenses were removed. I now have about 5 percent eyesight. That is why I feared that I would have problems with the touch screen on Genos. But, luckily, it turns out that I can operate it with no more problems than I usually have. Scores and lyrics are not possible for me to use. I have to memorize everything, thereby holding my aging brain sharp😀 I love the Genos.

I am so very glad you are happy with the Genos. You will find as time goes by, the Genos has much to offer
in so many areas.  Eyesight is well enough to see the touchscreen and that's a Blessing. My wife has failing
eyesight and is blind in one eye. I see her struggle to see figures and that's rough on her as she was a office manager and worked with figures constantly. I certainly know what problems that causes.

Bless you and may the Genos give you wonderful service.  Sincerely, Lloyd

Pino

Hi Toril
Thanks for the explanation
Good luck with your new Genos

I would have loved a Genos 61
Now I have the Sx900, happy enough.

Ok, let's talk about keyboards, 😀

Thanks everyone! It will take ages to know how to use all functions, but I love that. Still not used to 76 keys! Now I have too much of everything😀😀😀LOL!

Hi Toril, I'm so glad that you are happy with your Genos. I have had mine for only three weeks and I think it is wonderful in spite of the learning curve from my Tyros. I only wish I had more time to spend learning it's wonderful abilities. My first gig with it will be in nine days if I'm brave enough. I hope you have fabulous times both learning and playing it and I'm happy that the touch screen is not such a problem for you. Regards Dave
