Are you a Style-Hunter, Style-User or Style-maker?

Do you recognize yourself in one of these character descriptions. I made this more because I wondered why I had collected so many styles. Now I don't do that anymore. In other words: I was a style-hunter but I have now become a style-user, with an occasional style-maker. Of the many thousands of styles I have perhaps heard only 20% and maybe used only 0.01%. I find it increasingly fun to create my own styles for my own limited repertoire. All this with a big smiley!

The style hunter.
Has a collection of (ten) thousands of styles, preferably every keyboard there is. Has categorized them and neatly stored them in his computer. He / she is constantly looking for new, different versions of the various styles. A kind of hamster: wants as much of it as possible, but sometimes does not even know what they sound like. Having is the real motive. A kind of unsatisfied curiosity. Discarding them is not part of it.
The style user.
He/She has his own (limited) repertoire of songs. He would like to have (a) style that fits well into his (future) repertoire. Is selective in taste. He also sometimes uses the collected styles to adjust them to his / her taste. He also listens to the styles he downloads. He throws them away if they are not his taste. Every now and then he also buys styles that he can use in his repertoire. His collection: hundreds rather than thousands.
The style-maker.
He/She makes his own styles or adjusts collected styles to his own taste. Is curious about what is on the market, but more to get inspiration from. Spends a lot of time creating a new style and spends a lot of time on the technology needed to create the styles. Often combined with making good voices. His collection is well documented, but not very large. His voice collection is large.

Hi Ton :

The hunting period stopped in 2002 when the Tyros1 came out.
Since then I became a " user ".

I was a hunter and now I'm a user. After struggling with a cache of styles that I didn't use and difficulties encountered by styles that messed up my keyboard, I vowed to not get any styles other then the preset ones. The only exception is the purchase of professionally made registrations. So, I sold my S950 and bought a S975 and started fresh. It is amazing how the Yamaha preset styles can be manipulated to accommodate different songs. :D :D :D

Hello everyone.... being new to arrangers but have had the good fortune to have been self taught on organs using the old pointer system on my old Lowery., i know all my chords and every inversion on my left hand..  i read fake books with no problems, so as to the question,   I believe I'm a style user .. what s maddening at times is trying to find the songs i like to work with the styles i have on my T-5.... i find my self working thru every style in every category trying to determine an appropriate song.... i wish it were a little easier.    Song finder is ok, but I've never heard of 50% or more of the songs on there....  hope you all have a wonderful day.  Thanks
Tyros5.  New to me..

I'm still pretty much a newbie with my S975, and I freely admit that I have not put in the hours that I should to learn how to do what I want, which is to tweak styles to my liking.

So I am currently still a "moderate" style hunter, with the goal of becoming a good style user and a "moderate" style maker.

pjd

A Style maker, who is always looking for new source material (soul, jazz, funk).

I do watch the styles posted in the "Style Request" section of the forum for something that may sound like I can use. I also listen to tunes posted in the "Songs Played by Forum Members" section for style usage ideas. I do have a collection of all Yamaha styles from previous and current models. I keep them by name only if they is different, not by the newest name. I have about 4 other members collections that I go through at times for song style ideas. I will start with one of the styles and build it up to what I need to finish it out.

I have never been a style user, as I have always tweaked every style I use in some way or fashion.

I am a "Style maker" as I pick the song I want to learn and then make a style for that song, rather than run through a bunch of styles and settle for a style that sounds like song "XYZ".

I currently only use the Yamaha Style Creator to get the job done. I have worked with software and tried to turn midi files into styles. I found I still had to finish the style off by using the Style Creator on the keyboard. So to save time these days I just learned to use the Style Creator.

Hi,
Style hunter? in that I've pretty much kept all the factory styles for every keyboard I've ever owned.
Don't collect user styles, I did initially , but got out of hand,  spent too much time auditioning them,so that was the end of that.

Style Maker, basically kept the factory styles from my old keyboards s that I could convert any across that I might need. Did quite a few for my korgs over the years, won't need to do many for my sx900 as it was psr styles I was converting across to  Korg.
Realised I was spending way too much time on style editing etc and not enough time playing.
Best wishes
