Hi, is it possible to edit an existing multi pad which plays through once and then stops to one that plays as a continuous loop?
Thanks for any help

Hi Pam,

Yes, you can do this by turning on 'Repeat' for the relevant pad in Multi Pad Creator.

However, unless the pad already ends at the end of a bar, there may be a gap when it repeats since it will synchronise to the start of the next measure.  If this is not what you want, then you may have to add, move or remove some events from the existing pattern in order to get a smooth transition from the end the beginning as it repeats.

If you like, post the bank containing the pad and I will look at it for you.  I have both Genos and T4, but as long as the voice used by the pad is available on the keyboard, you should be able to edit the pad on any recent Yamaha model.

Hi Ian, ah thanks for that, just what I needed. The reason I asked is because I wanted to use the AmbienceFX pad 3 which is the seashore sound. It is now working well for me on repeat.  I don't really want it completely constant, it has that short break so is just just right.
Thanks for your reply.

Do you guys know how to remove the gap in the loop on multipads. Ref psr s 670...my repeating multipad only plays in every other bar......ive tried recording the phrase shorter... And over two buys but there is still a one bar silence between each played loop.... Very frustrating.... Thanks.. Mike

To avoid a gap when an MP repeats, you need to make sure that all notes have finished sounding before the next measure starts.

I don't have an S670, but on all other PSR-S models there is an option in Multipad Creator to edit the recorded pattern of MIDI events.

The pattern recorded in a pad is presented on screen as a list of events, and it is possible to adjust the start time and length of each one.

At the end of the list is an 'End' event which is automatically set to the time when a recording is stopped.  However if you use the event list editor to modify the pattern to make it shorter than originally recorded, the 'End' event is not changed automatically to reflect the modifications!  So even if you ensure that all notes in the pattern are completed by the end of a measure, if the time of the 'End' event is still in the next measure, you will get a gap when the pad repeats.  Fortunately you can change its time manually if necessary. In fact, if you deliberately set it too early and then play the pad, the 'End' event will be moved to the exact time of completion of the pattern, making it easy to check that it does not extend into the next measure.

I looked in the S670 manuals and although the Multipad Creator function is implemented, there is no mention of being able to access the pattern event list for editing, so perhaps this is not available!

If this is the case then you would need to use a program on a PC to edit the events.  An example of such a program is 'MixMaster' which is available at this link:  https://psrtutorial.com/MB/mixMaster.html

Alternatively, you could post the MP (using a file sharing site) and I or another forum member can look at it for you.

Your problem is your pad ends part way through the 2nd bar.

Edit your pad so the End event is at 002:1:0000

In order for a repeating Multi Pad to run "smoothly", I recommend placing the END marker on the last tick of the last Beat in the last measure. For a 4/4 pad that is one bar long, the END marker should be set to "001 : 4: 1919".

BUT unfortunately, in the S670 there is NO "Edit" tab in the "Multi Pad Creator". :(

@MaltaMystery
Hi Mike,

as described in the S670 Reference Manual (starting on page 56), use a suitable STYLE when recording your Multi Pad. And in your case, the most important things are to START the recording (by playing the keyboard) in sync with the STYLE and to STOP the recording exactly on the last beat of the desired measure (or minimally before).

Use STYLE CONTROL [START/STOP] button or MULTIPAD CONTROL [STOP] button or one of the [3]/[4] (REC STOP) buttons to stop the recording properly.

If the problem persists, upload the pad file to a suitable file hosting service and post the link here so forum members can help you.

Best regards,
Chris
● Everyone kept saying "That won't work!" - Then someone came along who didn't know that, and - just did it.
● Never put the Manual too far away: There's more in it than you think! ;-)

As someone mentioned above, the S670 does not offer the onboard step edit feature for songs or multipads.

You either need to get it right first time, or use an external midi editor.

Hi to all of yiu that took time to reply. Thank you all.. As some of yiu said the 670 dies not show the events list in exit mode... In multi pad creator one is only able to edit file names etc..... I know this isn't high up the range of psr s keyboards but it's the first time I'm dissappointed on the 670..ive been so impressed with it.. Considering the price.... But hey as yiu say there are ways around it... First I'll try recording again and getting better with my timing... If that fails I will check out mix master... Thank yiu fir all your offers of help.... Regards Mike

Have you considered PadMaker-Midi? It is a PC program that will allow you to do much editing of Multi Pads.
