I am not sure what is going on, but I tried around 8 USB sticks from different brands and sizes
and when I try to format them on the PSR, i end up with a USB that is unreadable.    I need to use Rufus, so that I can format the drive again.  Tried FAT, FAT32, ExFat   and the PSR is always killing it.

I wanted to format the USB, since when I do it on the PC, and put files on it,  after using it on the keyboard, and putting it back on my PC, I and up with ghost files from 2 Gb and odd file names
for no reason.

KEyboard is now maybe 3/4 weeks old, and it was working fine in the beginning.

Any suggestions?

What do you USE on your keyboard?

I think for regular use a USB 2.0 Stick with 8-16GB is more than enough.
I worked on more than hundred customer Keyboards and most of them didn't use more than 1-4 GB ..

AND don't forget, the internal SPEED of ALL keyboards is not increasing with bigger and fuller sticks :-)

On the last 500 Tyros and Genos PSRS I prepared for customers I  NEVER had to format a USB Stick for use on KEY/PC ...  (BUT I always take 2.0 Sticks at the moment no KEY in the world uses 3.0 speed ...!)

So put only on sticks what is in use and necessary.

I am using  Sandisk / Sony / Unknown / Samsung
USB 2.0 and 3.0

All I do is trying to format it on the keyboard, and it always fails through that.
If I format on my PC, and add Midi files to it,  it works for a while, and then the USB stick gets corrupted with ghost files of 2 Gb.

I tried  FAT, FAT32, Exfat

folder is only 1 with like 40 files in it.

Download 'USB Flash Drive Tester' from this site..... https://www.vconsole.com/download
This utility will check the USB drive for any problems.

Were all the USB sticks bought from a reliable retailer? eBay and even some 3rd party Amazon sellers have been know to sell counterfeit/fake USB sticks and memory cards which may appear to format correctly, but will not have the correct capacity, may work very slowly, and have data corruption. I had bought some 'budget' SD memory cards from Amazon that got returned as they performed poorly and failed to function after a short time. It is odd you have several from different manufacturers that are presenting problems.

Might be worth doing a virus/malware scan of your computer to ensure nothing is causing a problem that gets transfered to the USB stick.

They all tested fine.
Bought them all from retailers in the store.

I can use everything just fine..   its the format on the PSR that always makes the drive unreadable.
Tried over 10 different sticks, and even a recommended one from the list they provided on the site.

so idk,..   all it does is format for 5 minutes,  USB light is flashing 1 long and 2 short flashes for a while, and then it's game over.

my PC is fine,/  even a Fresh USB from the store, straight into the keyboard and format,  makes the usb unreadable.

Enildo

I always format on the keyboard and never had problems.

Talked with yamaha, and the told me to find a repair center.
Darn thing is a few weeks old, and  I don't have anything in the area.
So trying some other ways

What is the return policy of the retailer you purchased from? You haven't had it long and it should be within time frame that should allow you to exchange it or get a refund with no cost to you.

Toril S

This is a warranty issue! You have the right to get it repaired without cost.

beykock

It is always a serious problem if one has to send his kb to a service centre if this centre is located far away.

It is sad to miss your new kb for at least one week or longer.😰
Hopefully you kept the original carton box. 😎

Do not forget to add a copy of your kb invoice.
Important for your warranty though.

In general these service centres are very small ( one person )
independent companies working for different manufacturers like Yamaha, Korg, Roland etc.

I am able to return it to Guitar Center and get my money back
they sent me a return label for shipping, so i am going that route.
Guess they don't have this model anymore, so looking into something else in the same price range or less.

Funny thing is , I tried it again last night with a Sandisk 32 Gb  3.0  stick  and it worked all the sudden.  only took 1 second to format to Fat32
So idk... if all the old older ones are not comp.  (2.0)  and this one does work..

A couple of options, both reputable retailers. B&H won't charge sales tax if your state has it....

Also a retailer in Connecticut http://audioworksct.com/ that folks on this board praise

pka4916

ok, I figured out the problem.

the keyboard only accepts FAT32

When I format the USB stick on the PC as   FAT32  / Exfat / FAT  etc   the keyboard can read it,  but once you format  they all become useless EXCEPT if it was FAT32 already
guess the keyboard does not convert to FAT32 if it's  FAT or Exfat.

so problem solved.

Great! And you can keep your keyboard!!
