Hi there I've never owned or played a Tyros 4/5 but I have the PSR S975. Is this keyboard on a par with Tyros 4 or 5 and if not, what are the differences? Thanks

Toril S

The Tyros models have more features, such as chorus voices, and three upper voices instead of two. It also has the ensemble function, that is like a very advanced harmody function that let you play instruments together, and the keyboard makes it sound really natural. The 975 is a light version, but still a very good keyboard. I have an S975 myself, and also have a used Tyros 5.
If you decide to go for the top model, I would consider the Genos. T5 is now six years old. With the Genos you get a lighter keyboard than the Tyros, a touch screen, and many new features. And if you are satisfied with the 975 there is no reason to get a bigger and more expensive keyboard. Only you know what is best for you :)

Thanks for your informative response Toril.

Don't forget that there will probably be a replacement for the 975 some time this year and that will probably have some of the things Genos has.

The two models are not that far apart when it comes to the core capabilities.

In addition to the features Toril mentioned, Tyros also adds 2-track audio recording, more output jacks / pedal inputs, and the possibility of larger expansion memory (if you buy a 1GB or 2GB board).

S975 has a few things Tyros does not - for example the live control knobs, and storing custom DSP parameter values in registrations.

I really like the 76 key FSX keyboard on the Tyros.

Hi I use both S775 and S770 And Im very happy with them of coarse the genos has more features but it doesnt justify the price the gap is not that much as you might think  my opinion is this I hired a genos and honestly always my opinion I expected more for that price

Hi Mark,

I own both the Tyros 4 & S975. I would say the S975 compares quite well to a Tyros 3 rather than a T4 or T5. The S975 does have some elements of a T4 and T5 too as well as it's own unique bits, but as an overall package when comparing to a Tyros model I'd say it's closest to a T3.

I see you owned an S970... are the keys on the S970 better than the S975?
